A medals question: do battle stars go on the medal itself or the corresponding ribbon? I have a European Theater of Operations (ETO) medal and ribbon, and 4 'battle stars'- do the stars go on the medal or the corresponding ribbon?

Centered on the ribbon attached to the medal as well as centered on the ribbon if worn separately.
