The most notable I can think of is when Yank jets blew up a British infantry convoy, over their radios all they could say was "ooo damn we're in trouble...". I remember it because a close friend is now an amputee.

It's true British soldiers are trained to run to the battle area carrying all their kit, but American's prefer to get in a helicopter. It may seem on the surface that the Brits are the tough guys but the truth is that the M.O.D buy the cheapest crap they can and try to make it fly...when it doesn't... they rely on the British soldier's exceptional abilities to make up for their own incompetence.

I remember a very true story told by an ex marine friend of mine who was over in Yanksville, during his time with the "boot necks"...
Im led to believe that one of the Royal Marines tasks is to go yomping across the Mojave desert in South Eastern California, the kind of mindless task which is testament to their fitness, courage and stamina..
Apparently, an American Special Forces unit got wind of this regular occurrence and challenged the Marines to a race across the desert. The CO (Marines) accepted the challenge knowing his boys would be up for it. The CO Invited the Americans out for a few drinks with the lads, the night before the race, where as normal one drink led to another...
The following evening, every American had to be air-lifted out of the desert, the majority suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion.. The Marines went on to set a new record.. When I asked my mate who took part in that yomp what he thought of American "soldiers", he used one word... Pus@@ies..

I lived in a Garrison town in the UK for 18 years and met a lot of military personnel from the British. US; and other NATO forces.

I applied to join the British Army and Navy but was rejected on health grounds - I have mild asthma. I have accordingly become a student of military aspects and warfare in general. Admittedly, not a substitute for active service.

I am surprised to find an American potential Serviceman having a go at the UK.

The UK is the only European Nation that has consistently backed up the USA in military operations in the front line. Where are the French; Germans etc in Afghanistan?

Who would you like as your major Military partner? Paraguay? Argentina?. We wiped the latter off the military map with our own forces 6000 miles from home. You lot had problems assaulting a couple of Bns in Grenada.

Wake up; you berk. Or lose the most valuable and militarily competent ally that you have.

I joined the Paras at 16 years of age. I remember listening to the horror stories about the US forces. Apparently the US marine 3 miler has to be completed in 28 mins (only 12 weeks training!!! > compared to UK "standard" infantry 26 weeks). Let's face it, a cat with no legs could get that time. My section commander said a US marine challeneged a Para to a 1.5 miler, only to get a time of 14 mins, pathetic really.

I, however, do not wish to generalise. I am sure somewhere in the US forces there are some really good genuine blokes and girls. This guy would probably fit in there though, let's be honest.

I also hate the "our forces are better than your forces" crap, but genuinely, the British forces truely are the best. Can't argue with history or present.
