Best Air Force Job Choice When Signing Up At Recruiters.?
Find answers to your legal question.

Best Air Force Job Choice When Signing Up At Recruiters.?

So when you have to choose a job at the recruiters office before going to basic training, whats the best choice?

I scored high on ASVAB, and I'm qualified for pretty much any job.

I want a technical job, such as a highly technical computer job, or something having to do with new technology.

Many people try and say to just do something such as heating/ ventilation, or simple electrical work.

But I think I have potential doing a lot more technical work.

Another thing is that most of the hard to get jobs, that require high qualifications, never get sent through to the recruiters.

What should I do?
Additional Details
Bob, thanks for your input.

My current plans are to join a good technical job; something I can do well outside the Air Force as well. Plan to be with the Air Force for 4-6 years (Probably 6 years). While in the Air Force, I plan to make good use of the GI Bill, and get at least my Bachelor's degree.

Then leave after say, 6 years. Then follow the job I enjoyed in the Air Force.

Right now I like the idea of being a Biomedical Equipment, which would follow my plan well, but I'd love to do some highly technical computer jobs also.

But I don't want to wait a year or more waiting on just 1 job, that may never come.

Go into the Electrical aptitude area. You can't go wrong there.

Right now, how long are you planning to stay in the Air Force?

It really doesn't matter what you do in the Air Force, it's what you do with yourself while you are in. Where do you see yourself in 5-7 years, What about 15-20 years and beyond? You have to figure out how you are going to get from here (now) to there (then).

Start using the educational programs (Tuition Assistance Program) and start taking college courses. Get as much college out of the way. At around 3 years, if you still like the Air Force, stay in and continue using the TA program and finish up your degree.

If you don't like the AF, get out at 4 yrs and continue to finish up your education using the GI Bill.

Have fun while you are in. If you get the opportunity for Overseas travel, go for it. That might be your once in a lifetime to ever do it.

Additional Information:

If you are looking at biomedical equipment, then you would want the General Aptitude area. On your dream sheet for requested Jobs, put down , Biomedical Equipement, Operating Room Tech and any/all other hospital related jobs that seem to fit or closely fit what you want, then finally put down the General Area.

Without your asvab line scores, just how can we answer this question.

Tell us what your admin, elec, mech and general line scores are.

Recruiters get NO jobs to assign,

Job assignment is done at MEPS

MEPS receives 40% of all jobs to assign, the other 60% are reserved to be assigned in Basic Training.

Once MEPS assigns their 40%, they have to wait until the new budget year to be reauthorized more jobs to assign.

IE:

MEPS is allowed to assign 40% of all Biomedical Equipment Tech School slots, after they assign all 40% of those slots, they then cannot assign that job to anyone else, until the new budget year starts.

The budget year run October to October

So MEPS could actuallyu assign thier 40% of slots by December and then have to wait until the next OCT to have more slots.

The AFSC that has the highest requirements is Technicial Applications Specialist.

You need a 85 in Electronics and a 80 in Mechanical, plus you have to take the Air Force Data Processing Test and make a qualifying score.

The data processing test, isn't a typing test, its like a asvab test on steriods.

Aircraft Maintenance has many fields to choose from, one being Avionics..the electrical systems and computer systems of an aircraft. The Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC) start with a 2A. The great thing about these jobs are that after the military you might work for the contractors that make these aircraft...
You also should have the opportunity to "cross-train" that is after 3 years or so there are other jobs you can move into. The Air Force will provide all the training needed.

This link explains lots of the 2A jobs..whats needed on your ASVAB and locations and length of training.

Good luck to you and welcome to the military!!

Technical jobs such as computers are hard to come by. Just tell your recruiter that you won't sign a contract till you get guaranteed on what ever job it is that you want. Don't let him fool you about picking a job when your their the only guarantee you have is the one on your contract. If computers are your thing then ok but enlisted don't really see the new age stuff its just fixing COMPUTER that break so don't go in thinking your programing or anything like that. Also think about fire dept I had great success with it and it crosses over pretty well to the civilian side. You may think about medic as well they work great as EMT's and anything in the medical field is not a bad call

Uhhh, fighter pilot without a doubt. Chances are you won't even come close to getting that job though.
