I have a dilemma. Initially I wanted to either join the army or the air force. I'm going the rotc route.I looked into 3 branches, but for some reason never into the marines until now. My boyfriend is a marine and I have a great respect for them. I started asking him some questions about it and he told me he'd leave me if I ever join. I don't even know what to think of it. He loves it and even volunteered to deploy when he had a chance to stay with me. He says they'll screw me over with a career choice...

The military is allowed to discriminate based on gender. That's why almost every branch has an MOS or more that are not open to women. The Coast Guard is the only branch that does not restrict women from anything, and the Marines have the most restrictions. Whether you're male or female, you don't have as much say in your career as the other branches, but it's unlikely you'll get screwed out of a career you want if you qualify for it. If you're sure you want to be a Marine, I'd lose the boyfriend. You'll need support from your friends and family and he'll just drag you down. But you could try talking to him and seeing why he is so opposed to it... |

You need to decide your own destiny. If you want to be in the marines, air force, or army that's your choice. You can't let him stop you from pursuing what you want to do. Maybe he's just not the guy for you or he's just saying that because he cares about you and probably won't leave you. |

marines are a rowdy bunch because they have to be because they get volunteered to serve in the hottest most dangerous places imaginable. the standards have been reduced so women can serve in the marines but if your a guy do you really want a weakling in your team that you have to carry out of a gun fight because they were allowed in service due to political correctness. women are allowed to do less push ups, less sit ups and run slower. that will get other marines killed. in battle it's that simple. the weak, the slow and the stupid die first or cause others to die trying to save them. join the navy as a corpsman if you really want to help marines. sewing up marines who come back to the navy assault ship shot up and blown up is hard work that requires small hands to reach into peoples guts and chests to remove bullets, shrapnel and other things that shouldn't be there. be a nurse or a doctor and save a marine. it's less glory but the job is just as hard if not more so and you will be up to your elbows in blood if that's your thing. |
