Boyfriend left for Marine Corps Basic Training....?

Unfortunately there is no right answer....

When my son left for Marine basic he called two days later, but I know others who were able to call earlier than that, and some that didn't call until after the first week!

They are at the mercy of their DI's. If the DI wants to let them make a call, then he will....but he doesn't have to. It's tough, the not knowing and not hearing, but hang in there....

Check out the website I listed below. There is TONS of information there about boot camp, what they're doing each day, upcoming stuff, etc. They also have message boards, which was a big help to me. You'll find LOTS of support there....Don't worry, even though the site name says "parents" there's a spot on there for g/f's, too!

Oh, and by the way.....write, write, write, and write some more. Those letters are like gold to them.....

Don't worry they get to do a phone call and it literally is "Hi, I'm here, bye." So don't worry it will come. He is just getting transported and going through in-processing.

I'm sure he's fine. The corps are pretty strict so maybe he didn't get the chance for that call yet...im sure he will call asap...just be patient and wait...if its been more than a week..then id start to worry.

Don't worry about it most likely the Drill Instructors are still chewing their butts off for going down the Bus to slow or something.

Dating a military man is hard. You never get the phone calls you expect, and usually they don't come home when they are supposed to. You are gonna have to get over it, he'll call when he calls.

Don't worry they are pretty tough on those guys when they go for basic. If you haven't heard anything that means he is fine. They will call someone if something is wrong. He may or may not get to call you. It can be tough for them in basic, so just be patient. They really don't want the trainees having a lot of outside contact for almost the entire time during basic. So, don't be hard on him, he's living the tough life right now I'm sure.

you will need lots of patience. having gone down this road myself i know that you need loads of time to settle in to the amazing changes in his life that your boyfriend will go through during the next 6 months. My best advice is to make sure you are around when he needs your support. don't chase after him because then you will lose him. wait for him to call you. I don't doubt for a minute that he isn't thinking about you all the time, it's just that he won't have a second free at the moment whilst he is going through hell!! (he'll be ok though)

Don't listen to those jar heads. It can take several days. And if the line was busy when he tried to call it might be a while before he gets a chance again. Be patient.

Might not hear anything till the weekend. I would just try and relax. You might even get some snail mail before you hear his voice agian.

****My husband went through basic about two years ago. His recruiter had also told us he'd call us as soon as he got there to let us know he made it okay. He never called...not his parents or me. Don't worry, he'll be okay. If you haven't got the call now you probably won't get it. If his Platoon ever wins an event then they'll all get a call home. Also, they get a call on "Liberty Day" closer to when they graduate. However, it wont last longer than 5 minutes for either one.
Is he is California or Parris Island?
If he's in parris island this will be very helpful to you!

My husband is in the Army and when he was in Basic I didn't receive a phone call for two weeks. Just give it time. If something happened to him someone would know. I know it's hard, but he will call when they give him a chance!

There are no guarantees that he gets access to a telephone. He is in Basic Training to become a Marine. The military teach discipline first and then the fringe benefits will come.

I wish him well and thank him for his service to our country.

I was also in the military -- and Basic Training is tough -- especially the first weeks or so...
BE PATIENT --- I think it was after a whole WEEK [maybe more...?] before we could make one ph. call....

I went through boot back in 75 and it was not fun. We did not have much of a chance to do much of any thing. We was told when we could breath and not to. I recall as we was getting out of our civil clothes we had to go into this room that was long tables with dividers on it. In it was our personnel gear. Here it was by the numbers. This is your lock one is a short shank the other is a long. They told us the use of each. Then came the letter gear. Very nice stuff. You will now take out one I say again one envelope and one sheet of paper. You will have one pen or pencil. Take the pencil you will put these words on that paper. Now mind you they had another DI walking around should you not follow these words to the letter. Mess the &7e9 up and they had your number from them on. You was to put on the envelope the addres of your next of kin, lord help your butt if it was little sally, it better be mom or dads name on the address or a real good reason othe wise and you olny got one letter. You recall the one thing. It is best you do. Some place we was allowed into a room with maybe 10 phones and a line of 50 at each. We did not know it but only half the phones worked. When your turn came you made a call collect. They would be standing right there. you have 60 sec to make that call and 49 of them are already gone. hurry up, hurry up. time is up. get back in line. It was maybe 3 am before we could lay down. The next thing it was time to get up. We went to chow and our next stop was a barracks. Was I ever glad to final get a rack. So he is going to be balls to the wall for the next 13 weeks, Sunday is his best day becasue he can go to church, or stay in the rear and do laundry, write letters or shine boots clean his rifle. My D I's did not much care about which church you went to but you would go to the group closet to your faith. Same with smokers you was one or not. If you was a not there was not changeing your mind now if you was a smoker you could become a non smoker but once you did that you could not go back. Now mind you this was back in 75 over thrity yrs ago and I have had three brain surgeries and can still see boot camp like it was yesterday. Best of luck to him and thanks for your service.

i am a former marine myself.you can email me at man_marathon@yahoo.com or add me to your messenger.i doubt very much that there will be any phone calls allowed.his arrival night should have been close to 'arrival at auchwitz',but beatings are no longer allowed like in my days during the vietnam war.his entire day from early revielle(06:00) to taps(22:00) is filled with great food,lots of marching on the parade deck(grinder),feeling scared of the drill instructors,lots of physical excercise nonstop,class room work, lots and lots of shots in the arms,learning everything about his weapon(don't get jealous if he is ordered to sleep with his rifle),lots and lots of discipline by trained and professional killers with their hands,so just write to him.you can download the google earth and look at marine recruit depot san diego,ca

my best freinds boyfreind just went off to the marines they are really scrict .....he wasnt allowed to even right for a month so im sure hes fine just give it time.....do u have his address? maybe write him and make sure to send him stamps if u want letters cause he has no way to get um....good luck i hope u hear from him

Im pretty sure there is not Myspace during bootcamp, unless youre in the airforce or coastguard or something.Give him some time, you should hear from him soon.

If i remember correctly from when i went to Marine Corps boot camp, the phone call you get is after processing, which takes one week, and you only get like 90 seconds, so don't expect some long conversation.
Depending on his D.I.'s you can possibly get more phone calls.

On a side note, when you get his address send him an envelope that says "happy birthday" really big on it even if its not his birthday. His D.I.'s will give him a nice suprise

try to set up a way to communicate through myspace....many military people write home through myspace...

Hes in the army now I dont think he has time to make phone calls but give him till the weekend he probably will call by then
