Boyfriend left for Marine bootcamp 10 days ago. Still no letter to me or his family saying where to write.?

I thought by now his family or I would have received some information on where to write. If he didn't pass the physical fitness part, would they keep him from writing as punishment? I miss him.

Processign takes about 1 week, once they are in their permanent unit if he passes his preliminary Physical fitnes test, then they get the correct address for him to get mail sent to him and he is able to send you a letter from his "permanent" boot camp unit and you will be able to send him one too. |

I've been to boot camp, there is no writing punishment, sometimes it takes a while for things to settle down. There could be delays in forming his boot camp company and he doesn't have a permanent address yet.
Don't feel bad 10 days goes by pretty quick in boot camp, sometimes you just don't grasp how long you have been there. |

Most bootcamps are six weeks are longer and are extremely busy. He may not have time to write to anyone, until it's almost over. Don't fret. Every moment of his day is being controlled.
If he didn't pass the physical fitness part, you would have seen him back by now. It also depends where his bootcamp is at. They may have a policy of not letting any communications happen for awhile, for security reasons. Worse comes to worse, if you know where the recruiting office is that he signed up at, go there, one of the recruiters would be able to answer your questions. |

Trust me, I am an ex-Marine. He doesn't have time or energy to write at the moment. He is ok but sore, hungry and tired. He will be ok and you will too. Just go with it for now. |

The first couple weeks are extremely stressful, and rightly so. It's very likely he's totally forgotten about writing you.
Give it another week or so; once he gets used to the routine, I'm sure he'll contact you |

oh sweetie give it time. These boys and girls are put thru the mill at boot camp and there mail service is not the speediest either. These kids are up early and to bed late, they are worked so hard mentally an physically they don't know if they are coming or going. Its all part of making a good marine. The training he will get is going to make him a better person and may even save his life someday. So hang in there and be patient. You will love the new man when you see him next. When you do get letters love and cherish each and every one of them. He will write or call when he can. A lot of the time they get done with there day and shower and fall right to sleep that's how hard they are worked. It is not a picnic for them. Their com rads become their family and they can talk to each other for support about all subjects and yes you will be part of the conversation....he will tell them about the great girl he has waiting for him at home, will flash a picture, and all the guys will be jealous. And in turn they have their stories too. Give it time and be very proud to have a marine for your boyfriend. May God bless your Marine. Just hang in there. granny |

It could take a few weeks. Boot camp does not have very much free time allowed during the first several weeks. Besides, if you were to move from one address to another, it would take longer than ten days for the postal service to get your mail straightened out. He will write as soon as he gets a chance. |

Your boyfriend is extremely busy right now and doesn't need you worrying about a letter. You'll get one - be patient.
Your boyfriend will be sending a letter (most likely to his parents) that will let them know his address as well as company and battalion number. In the form letter, the recruit will fill in the blanks of his instructor(s) and the like.
Right now, he is very busy. I understand that you miss him, but this is all part of it. Be patient. |

You should of got a letter by now, maybe mail time delays.
He should of been able to call the night he got there and all checked in, etc. |

they often are told in the orientation to write their families but the drill sergeants won't intervene unless they have not writtin in awhile. You can call the unit and ask and they will kick his *** for not writing but he might not need the aggravation. He is really busy right now. |
|

|
Well, in the first couple of days, they will send a form letter out giving the address to send any letters to. Now, this will sometimes take a little while to be sent out.
Most likely the letter will go to his parents. It will probably come in the next couple of days. Once you get it, send as many letters as you can. There is nothing better than hearing your name called during mail call.
The DI's will monitor this, and will pull recruits aside if they notice that they never receive mail. But, if the recruit is fine, and doesn't care, they will not force him to write letters if he doesn't want to. |

(g) Free Time
1 The purpose of free time is to allow recruits to read, write
letters, watch instructional television (ITV), and to take care of other personal
needs and hygiene. It is a period when recruits do not receive training and the
Drill Instructor (DI) conducts no instruction. It is intended to be a relief
period from close, constant association for both recruits and DIs. Each recruit
will be afforded one hour of uninterrupted free time each evening, beginning on
the first training day, while in garrison, Monday through Saturday, and four
hours on Sundays and holidays while in garrison, as set forth in the BDR.
Company commanders may authorize two hours of free time on Saturdays. Company
commanders may suspend free time for recruits as a result of punishment imposed
by administrative or legal proceedings. Mail will be distributed by the DIs
prior to free time.
2 During this period, the duty DI will normally be in the duty
hut and available to provide any assistance that might be requested. DIs will
neither solicit recruits to come forward nor will they carry out any duties other
than those normally associated with a duty preserving good order within the unit.
(h) Sunday/Holiday Routines. Between reveille and the noon meal, the
time not actually used by recruits for religious services, morning police, or
morning meal will be considered as free time. On non-religious holidays, the
free time may be scheduled during the morning or afternoon, with Commander’s Time
scheduled during the remainder of the day. Sunday/Holidays are not considered
training days.
(i) Recruits Rights. The following rights are fundamental to the
welfare of all recruits and will not be denied:
1 Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep, except under the conditions
described in paragraph 4c(5)(f).
2 One hour of free time daily, except under the conditions
described in paragraph 4c(5)(g), and during processing, forming, and weapons and
field/combat training, and the Crucible Event.
3 20 minutes to consume each meal.
4 Attend sick call.
5 Attend scheduled religious services.
6 Request mast via the chain-of-command.
7 Make and receive emergency phone calls.
MCO 1510.32D
25 Aug 03
6
8 Receive mail on the day it is received by the parent company
except for Sundays, holidays, and during the Crucible Event.
9 Send mail.
10 Make head calls.
11 Use medication prescribed by a certified militaryREMEMBER MAIL DOESNT START UNTIL THE FIRST TRAINING DAY. FIRST HE HAS TO BE PROCESSES AND THEN ATTACHED TO A TRAINING PLATOON. NOTE, THIS TAKES AT LEAST 6 DAYS. MAYBE MORE. AND ALSO ALLOW FOR MAIL SERVICE TO GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH. EXTRA 2 OR 3 DAYS.
(A) PROCESSING. Includes certain accession, receiving, and
administrative procedures commencing with the recruits’ arrival at the depot.
During the processing period, recruits will function in an environment of minimal
stress, and the following activities will be completed:
1 Prompt and accurate data update of the Student Entry Level
Management System (SELMS).
2 Haircuts (male only). Class on appropriate hair styles
(females only).
3 Initial medical and dental examinations. Recruits will not be
subjected to any form of physical conditioning, swimming evaluation, running, or
unnecessary stress prior to receiving a medical examination.
4 Review all classification tests and enlistment contracts.
5 Provide initial indoctrination into the military way of life,
appropriate instruction on Marine Corps and recruit training regulations, and
personal assistance agencies available to the recruit.
6 Initial clothing and equipment issue.
7 Urinalysis testing.
8 Confirm prior testing for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus
(HIV) antibody or administer the required tests.
9 Complete the Initial Strength Test. Males must complete the
1.5 mile run in 13 minutes 30 seconds or less, at least 2 dead hang pull-ups, and
conduct 44 crunches in 2 minutes. Females must complete the 1.5 mile run in 15
minutes or less, flexed arm hang time of 12 seconds, and conduct 44 crunches in 2
minutes.
(b) Forming. Occurs between the completion of the processing period
and the start of the regular training schedule as processed recruits are formed
into platoons. Forming varies in duration, depending upon how long it takes to
amass a full recruit series or company to begin training. Initial housekeeping
tasks, elementary training, and the actions listed in the processing phase will
be accomplished. Every effort will be made to expedite commencement of the
training period. The combined period for processing and forming should not
exceed 6 days.
(c) Training. Recruit Training is comprised of 70 training |

They don't give the guys much time to sit down and write when they first take off. I was married to an Army man and when they sent him over seas, or over somewhere other than where we live, it would be 2-4 weeks before I got a letter from him. They are straight out busy till they get to their destination then they have to get set up first, then when they finally get down time, that is when the men and women get the moment to write a letter. Even when my ex went to boot camp, I didnt' get a letter from him until 5 weeks went by, because they keep them constantly busy, and after that, the men and women are so tired from training, they must get sleep. The don't get much of that either at boot camp. You'll get a letter I'm sure of it, just got to give him some time my dear, they really are keeping every new recruit as busy as possible training. They don't punish military personnell by not letting them write to their loved ones either. Hang in there, keep your eyes on the mailbox, and soon there will be a letter. |

ten days is nothing. . heck, mine went the entire 9 weeks without writing a letter.
you are just going have to accept the fact that his time is very regimented right now, and he may not have the ability to write to you as mcuh as you would like. yes, they get some free time on Sundays.. but frankly, most of the time they use it to polish boots or work on stuff they are learning during the week. |

no this is not punishment. what is happening is he is filling out paperwork, being issued equipment and taking classes and being assigned a training unit. when i went into bootcamp i did not have a address or time to write to anyone untill about a week after i was there. what you should do is contact his recruiter and ask him if he is in a training platoon yet, he can probobly give you the fastest answer. good luck and hang in there. |

Marine Corps boot camp is what 12 weeks long, they are very busy. I got a call from my husband within a few days, only because we had a child and his Drill Instructor was being nice. It was about a 1 min phone call, and then it took a couple weeks to start getting letters. Once they started they rolled on in a few a week. You also have to take into consideration if he is big on writing or not, he may be so exhausted that he can't even find the strength to write. They spend their first couple days awake and then after that the minimum sleep time they have to give them is 2 hours, so give him time, you should hear from him soon. Good luck. |

Give it time. Marine Corps bootcamp is long and he's just in the beginning stages right now. Things are hectic and it may take time for mail to get out. My husband wasn't receiving any mail when he was in bootcamp. It turned out to just be the mail, not that no one was writing him. Hang in there. |

In navy boot camp it wasnt until I was there for 3 weeks almost 4 weeks that my ex finally got a letter then she would get them more frequently....i mean 10 days is nothing....just wait.. |

Relax. Sometimes they don't get to write until around the end of training. That is how they "break 'em down and build 'em back up" the way they like. |
