can u buy ur own and change them if u dont like them and do u have to pay for new pair if u wear out?

If your issued boots wear out you get a 1 for 1 exchange at no cost (Unless you're an officer) same goes for any of your equipment
A lot of guys buy their own boots for ops and exercises but in the Engineers we used to get through them quite quickly - depending what tasks we were on - so we tended to use issued boots most of the time.
The Infantry would spend more, and get good use out of their non issued boots than we did though. |

Standard combat highs are terrible boots, they'll get you through basic training but investing in a good pair of Lowa Combat or Mountain boots is a must in battalion. In camp the RSM may have an issue with you wearing your own boots so it's worth keeping a pair of issued boots nicely polished for just mooching round camp but wear your own for PT and exercise. The gore-tex lining in Lowas is a godsend when on exercise cos its always freezing and raining. Plus, a well cared-for pair of Lowas will last you for years... |

I agree with Jon, however I'm of an age where I can remember when the current issue boot was considered gucci! There are a variety of boots issued these days on top of the standard assault boot, which include Meindl desert fox, Lowa, desert boots as well as high tech magnums, jungle boots, Pro boots and more! The standard issue boot can be exchanged when the need arises.
The disadvantage of buying your ownis when the need repalcing then you need to fork out more cash! As Al G has already mentioned Inafnteers will spend ober £100 on a pair of decent boots. |
