British moral in war, why is it just the brits with a high moral even when there loosing?

for example hitler called them unprofesional because they cared more about where the next cup of tea was coming from then death,

also when odds were agaisnt them they seem to be cheery and have a dry sence of humour lol

where did this orginate from and why do they always have high moral
Additional Details
you cant win them with a kind word and a smile ....

It's the British Soldier's mentailty. If something is totally out of your control there is no reason to worry about it, if it happens it happens.

If the odds are against you then no amount of panicking will change that, having a cup of tea however can be warming, can rehydrate you and take your mind off the inevitable for a few minutes

We don't :S
That's a new one on me :)
It's nice to know we are cheery people. YEY!

Britain knew that Hitler was wrong when he said we were 'unprofessional' ;)
He was just trying to upset us.
Don't judge us cuppa' lovers. I couldn't live without my milky tea with one sugar.

my daddy just said "we do, we laugh in the face of adversity"
and told me a story about a boat that was bombed and people were dead all around, when one boat was sinking all the passengers that were on it were singing "always look on the brightside of life, du du du du du du du duu"
HAHAHAHA!

There's no point staying down,
celebrate.
be happy!

True Brit' spirit :D

No idea why :S

during the war much of it was due to, Winston Churchill, but there was still the 'bunker mentality' (google it)

he wanted to get rid of that

dunno about now

We used to say "They can't make you pregnant and it can't last for ever" and just get on with it!

I think it's the ability to be able to step back from a situation and pretty much go 'even though i would rather not be in this situation, i have no choice so may as well make the most of it'.

Talking there about many situations, not necessarily the war. If a situation is bad, you might as well try and take your mind off it.

I think we are brought up to think like this.

We are warriors for humanity and justice and that's what we like to perpetuate. You can't win wars with weapons.

We're bloody-minded,The British soldier has always had a so what? attitude. The training supports it.To put in context every soldier belongs to the best section,in the best platoon,of the best company,of the best Regiment,in the best Army in the World.I was taught don't stand when you can sit, don't sit when you can lie down and if you lie down you may as well go to sleep.

There are lots of reasons why the British soldier maintains a high morale - mostly it has to do with the ability to put up with hardship without complaining. Also it has a great deal to do with an awesome history of warfar conducted by the British over very many centuries.

There are two hundred battle-field sites right here in the UK. This alone should tell you just how warlike we actually are.

There's also the very strong relationship between the British people and their armed services.

I'll explain it like this. I'm an old soldier [1957-1965] - I am totally opposed to the war in Afghanistan just as I was opposed to the war in Iraq. But I see nothing wrong what-so-ever in giving my total support to our British, American and allied forces on the ground, at sea and in the air.

It's the very nature of this support for the common British soldier, who knows that his people back home are in total support of him, even if huge numbers of us oppose the war in which he fights.

Soldiers do not choose to go to war. This is a political decision and the soldier must simply obey.

Remember this - "Never stand up when you can sit down, and never sit down when you can lie down".

The above comes from the British Army and was used frequently by my late grandfather of fond memory a veteran of both the Boer War and WW-One, in which he got lice, bad feet and the food was 'orrible and you could smell the rotting corpses out there in No-man's Land. Did he get down and despondent? Never, because he knew the folks back home were thinking of him and praying for his return and for a victory.
