Bush Show Thrower, What's your views on him being put behind bars for two years?

The journalist who threw his shoes at Bush( Muntadhar al Zeidi) could spend two years in jail for insulting a foreign leader, what do you think of this?
Al Zeidi threw his shoes and shouted at Bush in Arabic: "This is your farewell kiss, you dog! This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

Do you think America should ask for his release, from what i have heard and watched he has been beaten as he was taken out of the press room, and also during his detention.

Oh for Gods sake. What did he actually do? Lobbed a pair of shoes at a man that would be more likely to get a grenade if he went out in public over there, and missed.

I love the comment someone's made that America should keep out of this because it's the country's own laws. Anyone else see a huge level of irony in that?

If Bush asked through diplomatic channels for this man to be pardoned, he would be pardoned without creating precedence under law for any other criminal act. And it would help Bush's particularly bad image in the Middle East to actually show he could show that sort of judgement.

he knew what he was doing when he took the time to take off his size tens and then throw them at Bush

America should not interfere and
the laws of the land should stand and that's all there is to it

One of his brothers said he was beaten... another one of his brothers said he was not. I think that somebody has an agenda.

He broke the law. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Turn the tables. What do you think our government should do to someone here who would do such a thing to a leader from another country?

Regardless of the where a leader is from; when he/she is visiting another country they deserve the respect of the other country's leaders and citizens.

I would leave it to the Iraqi government to decide what to do with him.

the Iraqi government will punish him much more severely than we would.

He deserves to get every bruise after that performance. He is a journalist not a politician, he is not meant to be or have bias views, so I think he did let himself down as well as his fellow citizens and employers. Imagine if he plotted to kill Bush, say not using shoes but knives, he was in close proximaty? I thought Bush handled the situation very professionally, considering what happened.

I think he knew the law when he did what he did. He broke the law. He made the statement he wanted, but he broke the law doing it,now he has to face his punishment. Even if it was not a foreign leader, he attempted assault. He is getting what he sowed, no matter if you agree with him or not, the law must be applied unless we want to show Iraq that its laws do not matter.

I could only wish that our laws where so strict.

It does seem cruel, but these are the laws of a foreign country, and if he is pardoned, then it creates a gaping hole for other more serious criminals to be let off.

you cant insult a foreign leader, you go to jail for it in any country

I'm a big Bush supporter, but I think a great diplomatic service would be done if Bush asked for his release. He shouldn't undermine their government, though. I'm betting on him doing the right thing, too.

they probably dont have tazers, so they use there fists. seriousley, I saw some of the footage and it didn't look like he was abused. (maybe out of view of the cameras) Bush could ask for his release but it's up to the Iraqis (or Iraqi law)
It wouldn't set a very good example for us to ask them to ignor their laws after we just finished preaching to them of the importance of the rule of law. Anyway, It would make Bush look good just to ask, but of course you would still have the Bush haters say he's just doing it to look good. If he does it behind closed doors, we wont know about it so the Iraqis might not head his advice and the Bush haters will continue to blame him. In other words, I dont know. Flip a coin

I personally think that Al Zeidi has a point but he is a very foolish man. But as Pres Bush said at the time, ducking smartly out of shot, "this is freedom of speech. . . .duh!" something like that.

I also heard on the radio that an Egyptian guy has offered Al Zeidi his daughter's hand in marriage - his daughter is in total agreement.

So, even if Al Zeidi does do two years and say is out in 18 months, there's a bride waiting for him.

Well it's better than the promised eight virgins or whatever.

Meanwhile I hope he does not go to jail - I mean, what for? If he meant real harm surely he could have thrown something a little more dangerous - accurately thrown coins are best. Just don't ask how I know that. Or there's the old one of throwing a potato with razor blades stuck into it - most cutting. . .

Let's all just relax and be happy . . .a Merry Christmas to everyone.

He won't do two years. This was reported in order to satisfy 'public outrage', and as soon as we forget about the incident (in about three weeks) he will be released. Just sayin'

A tough sentence !!!!

Take the broader context/picture..fundamentalists resort to extreme terror measures killing innocent civilians in their wake over every real or perceived insult from the West..this guy should be censured..sure..but leniently..this was a custard pie in the face attack..occasioned no doubt by frustration and despair..not intended to be lethal.. just intended for max publicity and humiliation. Whether you agree with Al Zeidi or not..is it not better we throw shoes at each other, rather than bombs and bullets?

He is certainly more deserving of intervention from Bush than Lewis Libby was...

Shame he missed, but let him out he gave the world a laugh.

I think it's pathetic. He only threw a shoe and he missed, yet he got two years..

Bush however has been in command of a coalition of 37 countries that have gone with him to Iraq and slaughtered millions of innocent people, and only killed probably a fraction of a percentage of the terrorists.

Usually in America, if you kill just ONE person they'll execute you..
