when basic is over??? I was watching this one movie, and a drill sarge and a recruit dated when her basic training was over, and that sparked my curiosity. I know, I know, it's just a movie, but still, can they??? Since I'm on this topic, can the same go for recruiter, once their applicant are finished with basic and all.

After the recruit was finished with all of her training, as long as she didn't end up with the Drill Sgt in a postion of authority over her, yes they could date. It's just frowned upon. Fraternization only applies to officers and enlisted. Senior enlisted to Junior enlisted falls under "unprofessional relationships", and then only applies when the Senior enlisted is in the direct chain of command of the junior enlisted. Same applies for a recruiter, once the recruit is in and done with training, they could date their recruiter as well.
There is specific rules against recruiters or drill sgts dating trainees while they are still in training. It is an offense punishable under the UCMJ. |

No. Fraternization is especially an issue when there are romantic relations between people where one of them is a supervisor, or in a leadership position over the other. A relationship between a recruiter, Drill Sergeant etc and a junior Marine, soldier, sailor, or airman. The biggest issue is to prevent the opportunity for favoritism, or any detriment to the professional environment. |

Are you talking about the Jessica Simpson movie Private Valentine? That movie was full of errors, so that shouldn't be something you go by. Even after a recruit ships to or graduates basic he cannot date his recruiter or drill sergeant because of their rank difference. Fraternization prevents lower enlisted from dating NCOs and officers to an extent. |

The question is whether or not the relationship undermines the discipline and good order of the chain of command (ie, favoritism, treating subordinates differently, etc.) If so then it's fraternization: romantic or not. If it doesn't then in most cases it's not fraternization. Each service has their policies on fraternization. It's better to talk to other soldiers about this topic. |
