I want to become a marine sniper but I also want to be able to call myself a ranger even though technically it would just be a marine sniper with ranger abilities not an "Army Ranger"

You may attend US Army Ranger School as a Marine, as I saw 2 of my buddies from STA platoon and several slots for Marine Recon come down while I was there. Apparently most of the people here have no idea and have never been in a Recon unit. The newly developed MARSOC is also putting out slots for Ranger school as it is the premier combat leaders course for the US Military. During my time at Benning I've seen PJ's, SEALs, Force Recon Marines, and of course Army SFers going through the US Army Ranger School. Best of luck as you've picked two of the toughest goals in the military. |

Change your name to "Ranger" and join the Marines.
That way you can call yourself that. |

Yes, you can go to Ranger school as a Marine. I have seen a few go through school, but keep in mind, I went through Ranger school 15 years ago, but I'm sure Marines still go.
Also, just because you go through the school does not give you the right to call yourself a Ranger, you will be Ranger qualified. |

Marine Recon Sniper is not a Ranger. Either join the Army and qualify to be a Ranger or join the Marine Corps and qualify to be a Sniper. Both require a lot of skills and physical testing to qualify, so rather than muddle your head with titles, just go for the one that makes you feel right. |

Being a Marine is just as good or better then calling yourself an Army Ranger. Id rather have the Title Marine sniper. Why dont you give recon a try if your that good. If its about what your gonna be called and you dont want to be called a Marine maybe the Marines isnt for you. |
