So, im 17. And i was told that you can't join the service if you have been in a mental hospital. Is it true? And for further information i was in Akron's Children's hospital, OHIO for like a week for severe depression and suicidal thoughts and i use to cut. I wont lie, im not totally over it, but i know for sure im not going to commit suicide. Can someone tell me any information im looking for? Also, i was interested in joining the Army. Thankyou so much.

Well- with that history probably not.
You could possibly get a waiver- but it requires a mental examination from a doctor- and even then you probably wouldn't be able to. |

You heard right. "Cutting" is a sign of a serious mental disorder making you permanently disqualified from all branches of the service. There's no waiver of any kind available. |

Nope you cannot join if you have been to a mental hospital for any reason. No matter how long you have been in one. Sorry and I hope you get over it soon! |
