Can I purchase an AR-15 in California?

Can i buy an AR-15 in CA? I am unclear about the assault weapons ban here. I know lots of on-line retailers sell them, can I buy one and have it shipped to CA? I mean as long as it only carries a 10 round nondetacheable magazine isn't it legal here?

Anyone who can help me figure out how to obtain an AR-15 here in CA would be appreciated.
Additional Details
It seems that only the bushmaster carbon 15 carbine is legal and not ar-15. But it seems maybe there is a loophole if you buy the ar-15 lower reciever and build it yourself.

No, you cannot purchase an AR-15 in california. The only AR-15s allowed in state are those which were purchased and received prior to the ban. Assembling one on your own does NOT provide a loophole to the system.

Further, you can't purchase an AR-15 out of state and bring it into california for use either. The only valid AR-15 transfer to california is for passthrough... as in you're just driving through the state to get to somewhere else, but there are strict laws on transporting the weapon in such a way. AR-15s in the state are required to be registered, and being caught at a range with an unregistered AR-15 incurs some very hefty penalties

nope, AR's are considered assault rifles. as is ANY gun that has 2 or more of of the following:
detachable magazine
pistol grip
thumb hole on the stock
a pistol type grip under the barrel

i know theres more but you get the point. AR stands for Assault Rifle...sould be a dead give away

the only AR-15 you can buy here in california is their ca. approved AR-15. this one has a non-detachable 10 round magazine, is semi-automatic, and you have to literally break it open to reload it. but, their is actually a way you can get a "detachable magazine." search up AR-15 bullet button.

AR 15's can be modified to be CA legal. It would be categorized as a semi-automatic rifle. No fully auto rifles in CA are legal. No more then a 10 round detachable magazine with any semi-auto is legal, unless the rifle or magazine was purchased before the legislation went into affect. The loop-hole for the AR 15 is that it can be modified to have a (limited to) 10 round fixed magazine. All rifles with SB 23 ( Banned by Senate Bill 23) features, ie: Pistol grip, foregrip, retractable stock, etc. are not legal unless the 10 round magazine is fixed and non detachable in any way. So then your AR 15 would now have a breach loaded magazine.
