17 with a waiver, 18 otherwise. The United States is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which forbids the employment of child soldiers. You are neither physically capable or mature enough at 14 to handle the rigors of being a Soldier. Wait a few years and prepare yourself both physically and academically.
Good luck. |

nope sorry. i'm joining the air force and my recruiter said you had to be a high school graduate or least have your g.e.d. and some other stuff... i'm glad you want too but wait a few years. I don't think you can handle it at that age anyway. I hope you can join later on though. good luck! |

Try finishing school first, that will make you better qualified. The option to join is always there as long as you are not underage or overage. |

You must be 18 to join of your own will. you can join at 17 with parents permission. this is for all branches not just Army.
Also you must have passed the ASVAB and have a High School Diploma or a GED.
NOTE: only about 5% - 10% of the total applicants can have a GED. the rest must be High School Diplomas.
if you search resolved questions about ASVAB you will find one about a person who scored a 38 and wants to join the Navy. in the answer I gave you will find everything about the ASVAB and score minimums to join the various services. I think a 31 was for the Army. 36 for the Navy. |

no. the minimum age to join on your own is 18. you need your parents permission to join at 17. |

I once again must agree with cg23... As for mudmarine's comment, age is not a measure of intellegence. I passed the asvab with a score of 99 (max) at the age of 16. My suggestion to you is to seriously weigh this decision as it is a life altering choice. If you are true to it then you may want to look into the DEP (delayed entry program). It allows you to basically sign up, but wait up to a year before shipping out to basic. During that time frame you can decide not to join if you wish (dont let anyone tell you different). Once again, put some serious thought into this and collect the most info possible. this is a very big decision you are trying to make. |

First I think that this is a bad idea and that you should finish school. However, you did ask the question and this is an answer forum.
If you look physically like you could be 18 and you do not have a set of parents that are going to put out a runaway alert on you a set of papers proving that you are 18 is not a hard thing to acquire. A good web search would tell you how to go about it. With a set of papers and no screaming parents in the background joining the military while underage is a long American tradition.
As I said I strongly advise against it. But if you ask a question you deserve an answer not just an opinion. |

Im tired of people trying to be patriotic. My dad is a first sargent and he has to deal with whinny 19 year olds and their parent wanting to come home becuase, it wasnt in the contract. Well, if you really want to go to iraq for a year and see your friends die go ahead, and no complaining. But if you want ot chicken out, they will still send you. |
