Can a Navy recruiter threaten you when asking for a dep discharge?

That is morally and ethically wrong as well as a violation of every Service's recruiting regulations.

My advice, go to the Army recruiter and ask him to talk to his Commander (an Officer - because sometimes the NCO recruiters will not want to rock the boat with their fellow service's recruiter...been there done that) and let the Army Officer take it up with the Navy Officer, get your DEP discharge and GO ARMY!

Navy Regulations state, threatening DEP member with possible disciplinary actions for failing to enlist or coercing DEP members to fulfill their contractual [sic] obligations is inconsistent with the concept of the all-volunteer force (COMNAVCRUITCOMIST 1130.8F, 6A-6, Note 1).

Your husband should take this to the recruiting office's senior person... IN WRITING !! And, if he doesn't get a response, go up the list to the regional recruiting officer, contact your Congressional Rep if need be.

A recruiter like that is a poor reflection on the service, and the Navy in particular. I realize recruiting duty is hectic (why I refused it anytime a detailer offered it to me), BUT failing to keep schedules or at least notify the prospective recruit is NO reason to start making threats when the subject decides he'd rather go camping than sailing !!

The recruiter CANNOT do that. He has no control over his credit.

You can get out of the DEP at any time because you are simply NOT in the military.

Personally, I would talk to his station commander about this. It is WRONG on so many levels.

Look, I understand that they are under a lot of pressure and everything. However, they do NOT have the right to lie or threaten a potential recruit. Period.

That's an idle threat but nonetheless one that should be reported to the recruiters superiors.

If your husband is really interested in the Army, have him go to the a recruiter, let the recruiter handle any paper work releasing him from DEP.

What the Navy Recruiter has done is against the law. Go to the Navy Recruiting station and demand to be released form the Navy DEP so you can go Army. If they don't cooperate quickly, tell them you will write you congress person. If the blow you off write your congress person, be specific on the threats, who made them and when. Give a copy to the Recruiting station commander and let them now you will be mailing it the next business day if your separation isn't handled. Mail/email if they won't cooperate. Until you are released the Army cannot talk to you or advise you. If the Army Recruiter works with you will you are in the Navy DEP in is Violating Military Regulation and also subject to punishment through the UCMJ.

When I was an Army Recruiter some Recruiter did threaten applicants. They were punished under UCMJ. All Army Recruiter had to go to special training basically threaten to take rank if the practice continued.

Being released from DEP or failing to ship will have no impact on you or your further. It can have an impact on the Recruiter.

recruiters are under immense pressure to enlist. his job may be on the line, or he may receive a severe reprimand if your husband quits. I think Time magazine has an article on this subject this month. If he switched branches of the military, he'd probably find the same issues.

first let me say this i am a navy recruiter and im embarrass to hear that about another recruiter. one thing i wud tell people is that if they are having problems with there recruiter. don't let your recruiter dictate your decision about the navy. if he really wants the navy tell his recruiter in charge that you want another recruiter because apparently this guy is not a very good recruiter.and a recruiter shouldn't threat you about anything. dint judge that person on the navy. everybody may have there opinion but when it comes down to it its up to him.he should understand that you have two jobs and a family. and juss so you know, im not making excuses,but sometimes they are pressured so much in recruiting that they lose track of some things. but he still should know how to handle things.

Tell him to shove off. And don't buy this crap people are feeding you about the pressure the recruiter is under. Enlistments are up because of the economy and the Air Force and Navy are kicking people out.

they cannot screw with his credit first of all. im in the process of joining the navy as we speak. they cannot jack with any credit issues. they cannot keep you from getting another job or joining another branch either. i had a friend who changed her mind also and her husband went in anyway. everything will be fine.

I was in the navy maam and let me tell you, i hated it and its very unorganized. Im SO glad i switched to the army. Anyways, being in the DEP program doesn't mean a THING. He doesn't have to do anything his dumb recruiter tells him to, because he isn't in the military yet and is not getting paid. If he wants out of the DEP then he can get out. Its very simple but recruiters try to make it a big deal because they are losing a recruit. Tell your husband he can do what he wants. And me personally, i wouldn't join the navy. Go army.

Hell yea...life isnt about what you know it's about WHO you know. If s/he has high power and the ppl to back her/hinm up than hell yea! That's where kissing *** or saying **** the navy comes in at!
