Absolutely a NON US Citizen most definately CAN join.

You won't get the many benefits a US citizen has...
but you can get your citizenship - easily.

And once you are in...your college is free.

Yes, but there are limits to what they can do. They cannot re-enlist unless they become a citizen and their security clearance is restricted.

Fitforlife
Yes. A 7 year background check will be conducted and if your foreign born an Interpol check will be done (felony crimes...no).

You will be limited to what you can do, but everyone should be a rifleman anyway right!

With a name like Gerhardt, you must be Swiss, German or Austrian I would assume. Should not be a problem.

Don't expect to get a clearance during your first enlistment, and you will have to do some paper work prior to you wanting to re-enlist in reference to citizenship, etc.

Yep. It's how some people gain their citizenship.

Realize that you will not be getting any MOS that requires a security clearance of any kind though.

P.S. Someone down there said that college is free once you join. That is complete BS. I just finished my four years in the Corps and I only $30,000 towards my education. Sure, that's better than nothing, but it doesn't go very far now-a-days.

Unfortunately it happens more times than not. I don't agree with this at all....and I have my personal reasons. Plus, I know of some cases where it was horrible....

Absolutely you can. What's with the 16-year old retard answering no?

As stated, there are some limitations on clearances (and hence limitations on jobs you can hold) and I believe you much have applied for permanent resident status by the end of your first enlistment. As for not having the same "benefits" I don't know what that guy was talking about. You get paid the same, you get the same amount of leave and educational incentives.

However, I'm not sure about being restricted from your home country. I see Korean-Americans stationed in Korea quite frequentliy. I know at one point there was a bit of a squabble with Korea because they attempted to draft them out of the US Army, and we weren't having any of that nonsense.

Good thing about joining as a non-citizen is that citizenship is much easier to attain if that's your goal.

Yes, about the only restriction is that that person will not be allowed to be stationed in their home country. I had a friend I went through Basic, AIT and first permanent party togethor, he ws from Germany and still a German citizen and could not be stationed in Germany until he became an American Citizen. The reason for this, is that if he went to Germany, he could have been drafted into their Army.

depends on what army he/she wants to join

?
Yes but it will not give you citizenship. Although it should I think those willing to serve should be granted citizenship at the end of their term.

Yes! you can join the military, and you will be able to apply for you U.S. citizenship in about a year after being in the military if you chose to become a citizen on the U.S. Good Luck!

Of course a non US citizen can join the Army. My units reenlistment guy snuck over the border when he was like 4 and joined years later. He still isn't a US citizen. One of my drill sergeants in BCT wasn't even an American Citizen, he was Haitian. You will be limited by the amount of jobs you can take to those without a security clearance but that leaves a lot of good ones out there. If you eventually want a job that requires a security clearance then you can get one after you get your citizenship. I think after 4 years active duty you automatically get citizenship. You might want to double check the amount of time though. Talk to a recruiter for the specifics. Do not listen to the people on here who think the armed forces are only for citizens. They do not understand how our military has recruited for hundred of years or how much the U.S Government respects and needs people like you.

depends on what country you are in

"NO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GRUMPY
Simple answer, NO. Think about it, if we allowed NON-citizens to join any branch of our armed forces we could actually be letting allowing terrorist right into our own armed forces. I use this only as an example.
