Accompanied not occompinied is the term. Accompanied means that your spouse and children can be with you. Unaccompanied means that his family can't be with him but it is usually 1 year to 18 months long. If he gets an accompanied tour then it is up to 3 years because of the cost of sending the family over there. He cannot get a 3 year unaccompanied tour, the longest is 2 years at any location unless something happens in which it can be extended but I have not heard of that happening in years. |

They will only last 3 years if he ask to extend his tour once he gets to Korea or he has ahn ACCOMPIANED Tour which means his family will be coming with him.
Otherwise he will be there only 1 year. |

If he brings the family, it's 2 or 3 years.
If he does not, it's only a year in Korea.
I have heard that they are making changes to that....but last I heard those changes aren't in effect. |

my husband was stationed at camp stanley, korea for a year..you can extend if you want but the initial hardship deployment is 1 year.if you take your family then they require you stay 3. |

So no a Non-Command Sponsored tour can not last three years unless the soldier requests an AIP for three years, but that doesn't happen until he gets to his duty station. I doubt he even has pinpoint orders yet.
As of Decemeber 15, most of the tours in area II, III and IV are three year COMMAND SPONSORED tours.
I think he needs to re-read his orders to make sure that he doesn't have a command sponsored tour.
NWIP- There are several men here I know personally who have been here 3+ years and they are not married and have just AIP for those years. It can happen, it just doesn;t happen often. |
