Can any one tell me why is this.?

Every time i see an army vehicle convoy on the motorway, why do all the vehicles have the headlights on even in broad daylight. I have seen these quite often and have always wondered if there was a reason for it, anyone know???
Additional Details
They aren't always in convoy though, sometimes a lone vehicle.

The paintwork on Army vehicles is designed to make the vehicle difficult to see. Headlights make them more visible to other road users.

In convoy it also makes it easier to see the vehicle behind in traffic so you can make sure you don't leave them behind.

Daylight lighting for military vehicles is a requirement. It's an additional safety measure..

The same reason most new cars have daylight running lights...safety. The military figured out a long time ago that dark vehicles are much more visible with lights on than off when running on civilian roads.

I presume so that they will be more visible and there is forewarning of their presence - As a motorcycle rider I usually ride with my headlight on for the same reason !

its in our driving standing orders we have to have our head side and tail lights on. it doesnt matter if its day or night

It is simply to let others know that the vehicles are traveling in convoy.
Funeral processions do the same thing.

Think about it. You can see the vehicle a lot better when it is coming at you with its head lights on. Look at cars when you are on the road next time. Look how much easier it is to see then when they have there head lights on then off.

its safer that way, a lot of drivers ed classes tell you to have the lights on during the day.

so that contact can be maintained, and, hopefully, idiot motorists won't be cutting in and out of the column. you see this happen all too often in a funeral cortege, where the custom is for all those in it to put their headlights on.

Unforgiven
Fir safety reasons, so you can see them, its hard to back up an LMTV or an FMTV, and if you see me before I see you, then you can get out of the way. I knew a soldier that once ran a HMV up on top of the guys car and mashed the roof, they took his military licence away. All big vehicals have a ground guide, as I said but its for safety reasons.
