Yet understanding of the nature of the threats is not high, in part because of imprecise usage of the term by politicians and the media.

it is the bomb ,missiles that can kill many people in one bomb. Like nuclear weapons and chemical weapons. Like nerve gas, mustard gas weapons like that. Not exploding bombs. But a bomb or missile that spread in air or can wipe out a 100000 people city with one bomb or missile.

Weapons of Mass Destruction are officially defined as Nuclear weapons, Biological weapons or Chemical weapons. NBC weapons are acknowledged to be identical an attack by one can and will be met with another one. Normal weapons can cause damage over maybe a square mile and several hundred casualties by a single weapon. Then they are done with. Weapons of mass destruction will destroy several hundred time that and are often persistent. IE fallout, anthrax spores, VX nerve agent. all my last for years.

Weapons of mass destruction usually refer to a large nuclear bomb,chemical bomb or atom bomb that has the capability of destroying a very large city/county with its initial impact, not including the destruction o f its aftermath. It will basically level everything and kill everyone for hundreds of miles (HIROSHIMA)
