Firearms are fundamentally low-tech beasties. They can be made with tools readily available from Sears -- even hand tools, if you're patient. There's a village in north Pakistan whose entire economy is based on handmade copies of popular firearms, especially AK-47s, which were designed to be as simple and cheap as possible to manufacture.
Most modern manufacturers use CNC machines to make their guns, but that's a matter of economy and quality control. Most of them were making guns long before those machines were invented -- often the same guns.
The popular M1911 model handgun was patented in 1906 and adopted by the US military in 1911. Computers weren't even a gleam in anyone's eye back then.
The AK-47 was adopted by the Soviet Union in 1947. Computers had only been in existence for a few years and weren't controlling machine tools yet.

They have been for a very long time. Computers are just a recent addition. When I went to S&W armorers school a couple of times in the 80s, there were no computers to be seen, just a lot of machines and people doing the work. |

Of course they can And were/are to some extent. But modern machine work is done by CNC machines.
