Can i join military if diagnosed with mental disorder but stopped taking meds?

i have ADD, which used to disqualify you from the military, but i went to my recruiter, and he said that i had to be off the meds for a year before joining, had to have a letter of recomendation from my doctor saying im ok, and i also had a letter from my manager saying i worked fine for her off my meds, and i got in fine, been in for about 9 months now

It depends on what your medical documents say. The short answer is "You're disqualified." There may be opportunities for medical waivers available, but the only way to check is to talk to your recruiter with your medical documents IN HAND. If you don't have your docs with you, don't waste their time, and don't expect them to jump through hoops to get it all together for you. The decision will be on the doctors at MEPS that analyze your medical records.

If any one human being were analyzed, they would be found to have SOME sort of mental disorder, no matter who they are.

I encourage you to give it a try and not make an issue out of it if you want to enlist. If your issues are apparent, the military will give you a medical disqualification. If not, you are in.

On the other hand, if you feel unstable, please treat the issue and get the help you need so you feel good about life...k?

Depends on the mental disorder in question. A simple, perhaps mild behavioral disorder that has become less apparent over the years would be no problem if you haven't taken medication for it for ages.

HONESTLY, SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED THOUGH THEY HAD A MENTAL DEFECT. THE WHOLE DON'T ASK DON'T TELL THING GOES FOR ALOT OF STUFF THATS WHY THERES SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE MILITARY WITH STD'S. BUT I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO TELL YOUR RECRUITER --- RECRUITERS REALLY WANT TO ENLIST PEOPLE NOW I MEAN BAD.... BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME THINGS THEY JUST WON'T ALLOW. MY HUSBAND WAS A RECRUITER AND AT ONE TIME I TRIED TO JOIN BUT I HAVE SCOLIOSIS A CURVED SPINE... AND THOUGH YOU CAN GET IN WITH SCOLIOSIS MINE WAS TOO SEVERE. SO THAT'S MY ADVICE.. GOOD LUCK!!

No you can't because it might mean your unstable in an evaluation and that could make you a liability, sorry hon.

no. cus simply they just dont want you to freak out on them. even if its not that kind of mental issue thats what they think. they dont want to be responsible for you if something comes up and happesn because of it.

currently on Meds is a No Go. You must get off of them, with doctor approval and function NORMALLY for 12 months before you will be allowed to seek a waiver. You CANNOT stop the meds on your own.

Long Term treatment(more than six months) is a PDQ. Bi Polar, ANY diagnosis is a PDQ with zero waivers authorized.

basically, for anything other than situational depression treatment lasting under six months, your chances are slim to none.
