It should be ok. They will measure your waist. I was fat when I joined, but I got in. You don't sound like you're too fat. |

It depends on your age. I was able to google an Army weight and height chart and depending on your age it says the height and weight minimum and maximum.
According the the chart, at 5'10" (70 inches) the minimum weight you can be at any age is: 132
The Maximum weight you can be for your height is as follows:
Age Max Weight
17-20 180 lbs
21-27 185 lbs
28-39 189 lbs
40 + 193 lbs
So you need to be over 40 years old to be 190 lbs in the Army. since you said you want to join, I'm thinking you are younger like between 17 and 27, therefore you need to lose about 5 lbs before you join. The best thing would be to ask a recruiter. 5 lbs is nothing, you can lose that in the first week of starting a work out program at the gym or jogging, you will lose water weight first and that should be about 3-5 lbs in the first week or so.
Good luck! |

You can always call your local recruiter, then you will get absolute information instead of speculation.
Having facts is always better than relying on fiction. |

They will tape you to see your body mass index. If they consider you 'overweight' they will put you in a program. Many people are considered overweight when they first join but they lose it fast especially if you stick w/ their plan. Plus then boot camp, you'll lose a lot of fat and gain muscle! |

They'll whip you into shape in no time. If you don't have any pre existing health issues like asthma or high blood pressure you should be good to go. |

According to a BMI calculation, you are overweight. (I think) but is it muscle? They make you do a physical fitness test, regardless. |

Sounds about right, if not you'll lose some in boot camp. |

At 5'10 your required weight for the Army is 189 lbs, but you should be good to go with the Body Fat. Or, 1 lb is a mere "bowel movement" the night before or the morning of the weigh-in (Ha-ha).
Additionally, chance are you will lose some weight while going through Basic Combat Training (BCT). Don't worry about it.
Check Army Regulation 600-9, Army Weight Control, if you are really concerned.
Good Luck!! |

You have to be under 18% body fat. Even if you are overweight, they will tape you. |
