I'm going to be 17 late august but i want to join the military reserve or National Guard. Can i do that still with a parents signature? I'm a junior now and I want to do basic training before i start school In the late august or early September based on were my family moves to.Also will i get deployed if I'm under 18? I've also heard that if i join I'm legally emancipated? Please i really need answers.

no. at 17 and a rising Senior and parents permission( all legal guardians) you can do split op for Army Reserves ONLY.

you are not deplopyable until you have compelted AIT.

if you enlist you can only enlist in a reserve unit near by where you live so if you are moving, they won't let you commute. at this point it is highly doubtful you could get anything taken care of in time to ship out this summer before your Senior year of HS.

No.

You have to be at least 17 and have your parents' signature or be 18. You can enlist in the Delayed Entry Program while still in school, but you will not be heading to basic until you have graduated.

So, no you can't join now. And no, you can't do basic training before you graduate. In either case, you will probably be at least 18 before you are through basic and AIT and actually assigned to a deployable unit, so that is probably moot.

Since you have to be 18 to join without parental consent, you will be a legal adult when you join. Enlistment does not emancipate you.

you could have done that but before you go to basic you must be 17..what your talking about is the split op its to late for that.wait until you are a senior and sign for active duty trust me its better..and you cant be deployed until you are 18.against the rules 18 is the age to see combat

You can't join without a HS diploma. You can join when you are 17 with parental consent or 18 w/o. Cannot join at all if you are under 17.

not until 17 and your a senior in high school or about to be
you wont fully ship until your 18 though

you need both parents signature

you wont deploy until after you graduate high school and turn 18 plus do all of your job training for your mos

I joined the Navy at 17 with my mother's signature (I was one of the youngest in my high school graduating class). They did not require my father to sign. There was another girl in my boot camp class that was 17. You can't join until you have a high school diploma. You can't just go to boot camp before school starts and then go home and go back to school. Once you are in the military, even reserves or National Guard, you will go to a follow-on school after boot camp to learn your military job (this could be for a few weeks or a year). The chances of you being called to active duty shortly after are very good, they tell you one weekend a month and all that, but you have to realize that a very large portion of the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are reservists that have been called up for year-long deployments. Once you are in the military you will not be given special consideration for your age.

It's almost common knowledge that you have to have a HS diploma and most of those graduates being 18 anyway that's what the minimum age should be. But the signatures from parents still count as some high school students graduate when they're 17
