Can my unit deploy me with my previous MOS with another unit?

I am in the Army Reserve and previously I was a Transportation Officer but now I transfer to Medical Service. I already have order for this transfer effective March 2, 2009, but my unit is deploying me as a transportation with another unit and the transfer orders to this unit as a transportation are effective April 8, 2009. can they do that knowing that I am no longer a Transportaion but a Medical Service approved by a Board?

Now, my unit sign on a 368 conditional release approving release as a transportation officer once I was accepted as a medical Service, my career manager told me that once they signed that release form is too late for them to deploy me as a TC unless I deploy with my unit and they used my transportation skills but not with another unit, now the unit is telling something different which all of you already answer. I just want to make sure they are doing the right thing.

They can because you are still qualified to be a transportation officer.
EDIT: The DD Form 386 is a conditional release from one branch of service to another - it isn't required if you are going to a USAR from a USAR unit so it doesn't apply here. |

I'm a navy guy, but so it may work differently in the army, but here it goes.
Yes, they can. Technically you hold both MOS, and so they will assign you orders based on the MOS that they need most. |

Yes. The more MOS's you hold the worst off because they can pull you for any of them. |

Yes they can.
I was an Armor officer then was changed to Ordinance because I was branch detailed. I was then deployed in an Armor officers slot. |

Yes they can because you technically hold both jobs interchangeably. You carry both skill sets. Looked at another way, would you turn down promotion to the next rank because you were promoted in your previous MOS? |

yeppp.... can in as a combat mos.. i changed over to work on computers... moved posts and ended up in a force com unit doing the same old grunt work... |

I'm former Navy and they used to tell us: "Needs of the Navy" so I guss in your case "Needs of the Army" come first.
I was a Corpsman which is medical, but I was always told that I was a sailor first and a Corpmsan second...they could use me how ever I could be used...but I'm a civilian now and have a job description and belong to the union....
You can talk to your career manager to be sure, but I think that they can cut you orders for anywhere that they need someone with your skills. |
