I just asked if single parents can join the army without giving up custody of they're kids and the answer was no. Can they join the air force or SOMETHING and just have somebody agree to watch they're kids while they cannot?

You may join the US Army Reserves and that is it. You'll set up a family care plan that shows your child will be taken care of by someone that agrees to do so while you are in training and/or during deployments. You may not join any active branch of the US Military as a single parent. |

no. NO active Duty Branch takes single parents for initial enlistment. you may not give up custody just to enlist and you may not regain custody at all during the entire first term of enlistment.
SOME Reserve Branches will take Single parents. |

That's one of those tough situations. Once you are in the military it is allowed! As stated you simply have to have a family care plan signed by a caregiver that will take your kids if you have to deploy or something.
I'm not sure if the AF will allow you to join though. Ask the recruiter, they'll tell you. If you are worried about telling them your status, call one from another town or state.
If you were married with kids I know it wouldn't matter. And like I said, if you later ended up divorced it still wouldn't matter to the AF, you could still stay and keep your kids.
