I got the following from the Military website but my recruiter says he has never heard of someting like this. This would be a deal breaker for me since I have student loans I would like reapaid and I want to go in with a OCS track as soon as I enlist. I know I would have to go to Basic Training, Tech School, and then OCS if I even get in....
"Are officers eligible for the Loan Repayment Program? FAQ
No, but if an individual enlists with the LRP as part of his enlistment agreement, becomes an officer prior to his third-year anniversary, and completes at least one year of active duty as an enlistee, his loan may be prorated for the portion of the year served. The individual must submit a copy of the Statement of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, DD Form 214, MEMBER 4, in order for prorated payment to occur."

Your recruiter is probably right concerning the Loan Repayment. I know you can go OCS "off the block" for certain jobs, but you need to talk to your recruiter and if not, others if you don't like the answers. Get it all on paper for review.

A11. The Education Incentives and Counseling Branch. The Education Incentives and Counseling Branch (EICB), number and address below, is responsible for administering the LRP and answering any questions on LRP policy and procedures. This office will also send out critical paperwork (loan verification forms) which LRP participants and loan holders must complete before any payments can be made on a participant’s loans. My understanding is that LRP is now offered with OCS contracts.
Have your recruiter ask up his chain of command if this is the case. |
