i am going to bct on the 19th and i currently live in in va and i am going in as an e-3...can anyone tell me how much i will bring home so i?i want to budget my money since i will be gone 15 wks to ft. knox

it depends are you married/ have dependents? cuz if you are you will receive BAH(housing allowance) if your not married/ have dependents you wont get that. you BAH will be based off of where your dependents live now. you will get BAS(food allowance) minus what ever you eat in food. after 30 days of bing gone if you are married you will get family separation pay. Base pay for an E-3 is $1649.70 but most of the time you do get the E-3 grade until you graduate or at least that is what happened with everyone else i know. if you go to this site it should be able to tell you approximately how much you will make. http://www.defenselink.mil/militarypay/pay/calc/ |

You base pay is completely independant of your location. It is based on your grade and time in service. You can access that chart at http://www.dfas.mil/militarypay/militarypaytables/2009MilitaryPayTables.doc
During basic training you will live in barracks on base and will not be eligible for BAH. This will probably also be the case during your technical training, too. Once you reach your first permanent duty station, if you are junior enlisted and unmarried you will live on base in dorms, again not receiving BAH. If you are married, you can either get family housing on base (not getting BAH), or live off base at your own expense (getting a BAH stipend based on your rank and the zip code for your base...not the zip code of your house).
Edit: During Basic, you will be paid as an E-1. Upon graduation from Basic, you will get your E-3 pay as provided in your contract (I'm assuming you either have 3+ years of JROTC, 15+ college credits, or are an Eagle Scout), and any back-pay they owe you covering the difference between E-3 and E-1 pay that you didn't get during Basic. |
