it would make more sense to pass messages between spies by either talking in person, on the telephone, via VOIP or writing to each other via letter or email.

The only thing you need to make a code work is the agreed upon 'key'.

If we knew what certain words meant - such as having double meanings - then all we would need is a medium in which to pass the message.

We could do it through newspaper ads, playing certain music on radio at a certain time, etc.

During WW2 the allies would send messages to POW's in German camps over the radio.
A weather report calling for "rain tomorrow with patches of sun later in the day" could mean that a safe house was ready in the next town to take an escapee.

If you asked a question on YA using our pre-arranged code, all you would have to do is look for an answer that meant something to you in code.

Poor grammar or spelling could be part of that code.

To anyone else it would look like gibberish, but to you and me, it would make perfect sense.

Did u git dat muney I sent u the other day? Could mean, "Did you take the photos of the ship?"

And a response of, "Naw dude, I was 2 tired 2 look", might simply mean yes.

A code, a key and a way to transmit and receive the code is all that is needed.

It could be but then anything on the internet could be; the odds are about the same as any other forum but actually probably more difficult here just because harder to find a "coded" message or answer based on volume of those coming in at any time.
