Can two brothers be in the Marines at the same time?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can two brothers be in the Marines at the same time?

I am thinking about joining the Marines (probably through OCS) while my brother will be enlisting at the end of this year. Other than the two of us there are no children in the family. I seem to remember reading something about all of a family's children entering the service at the same time, or maybe I just watched Saving Private Ryan too many times.

It won't be an issue. Saving Private Ryan was a pretty good flick though... Good luck to you and your brother.

Today there is nothing prohibiting siblings from serving in any branch at the same time. Also, it is more common than folks think for siblings to deploy at the same time. In my reserve unit, we have identical twin brothers who deployed together. Also husband and wives who deployed together.

What you saw in the movie applied at that time (and I think may apply should there ever be a draft again...not sure though). Not so with an all-voluntary force like we have now.

Yes, and your sister, Father, uncles Aunts, etc...

First, you aren't going to be joining the Marines. "The Marines" is not a branch of the armed forces, it's called the Marine Corps. Don't sweat it, that's a common misconception.

Second, yes, you and your brother can serve at the same time. Two brothers can theoretically even serve in the same unit together. Married couples, brother and sister, I've even seen father/son.

In your case it would be different though. If you go OCS and your brother goes the enlisted route, you would be prevented from being put in a position where you could be in your brother's chain of command (you couldn't be his boss).

Yes. The only exception is sole surviving child and that has to ne applied for. If you look at the Army national Guard it's not unusual to have entire families in the same unit. We have one company with a dad who is a First Sergeant, a son as a Staff Sergeant, another son as a Lieutenant and an uncle who is a Staff Sergeant. Not unusual in the least.

Yes
I do believe they can't serve in the same unit because of the Sullivan brothers.
