USMC?
Sure. Then watch it get confiscated and sent with the rest of your non-essential civilian belongings to storage until you complete boot camp. You will get, I think, 1-2 calls while you are in. Basically time to say, 'I'm safe and this is fun." |

No, they take all non military stuff away from the day you arrive. |

They take it away the day you arrive - at least they did when I joined the Marines. they took everything. |

No.
Take nothing except the clothes on your back, any prescription meds, and 50 bucks in cash. If you take your iPod, laptop, cell phone, MP3 player, etc., it is going to get taken away from you and one of two things are going to happen (1) they get mailed back home at your expense or (2) they get donated to charity.
So leave all that crap at home. |

The day I arrived in bootcamp everything was taken, away even the clothes on our backs. We were issued military gear. No, you are not suppose to bring any electronics to bootcamp; however, many soldiers do not obey that policy. I did take pictures when the Drill Sgts were not around. I'm sure the same can be done with cell phones. If they caught you though you will suffer the consequences. |

hahahahhahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahha... - sure bring it - you will put it in a box and mail it home within about 4 hours of arriving. Along with anything else, that's not the same. |

NO, You will leave all of your civilian life behind
for awhile, then after you end your Boot Camp and Any other schools that you may attend, you will get your stuff back. In the Meantime, they will
try and make you a new person in the eyes of the US Military. |

No cell phones. No nothing in fact. You'll even loose your hair. You can bring what you want but the service is under no obligation to store it for you. Some things they'll store, like a picture, or the bible. Most likely they'll let you mail your cell phone home but DI's love to make an example of someone. Keep your head down and don't ever complain and you'll make it through with minimal trouble. |

No for security reasons you can't take your cell phone to boot camp for the first ten days you can't even communicate with the outside world. I dont know which branch you're going into but I'm going in the Navy and I know people that are marines and army and all our recruiters said when you arrive you get one call home and you have to read a card to your family that says you're fine and will contact them in so many days. After that you can write letters and I'm pretty sure use a payphone if your bootcamp has it. |

you can bring em to boot. but as soon as you get there you have to hand them in and get them back after you graduate. no texting or calling with the cell. |

They will take your cellphone. They are trying to mold you into a mean, green fighting machine, and your cellphone is a distraction from the brainwashing....err....training you are about to receive. |

no cellphones, no computers, no phone calls of any type unless you earn them. My stepson just graduated 18 January.. he got to call his mother exactly three times.. week 6, week 8 and right after Battlestations. he had time to write maybe two letters he said. |

I would suggest not taking anything you won't miss if it disappears. Drill Sergeants are humans to and some of them are flawed. I went back in 1988 with a really expensive knife that was "stored" for me and I never saw it again. Not saying it will happen just that it may and you may not want to take a chance. |

You won't need it, you will be very busy. |

No, you will have to mail the phone back home and pay out of pocket for the postage. There is not enough storage for your cellphone and it is too much trouble to take the cellphone and issue them back out. |

I would not recommend it. |

No, not during boot. After you can, but I'm sure there are restrictions on when you can use it. |
|

Katara

I doubt they'll let you use it. It's bootcamp, dude. You can try taking it, but like you said they'll probably just take it away.
Good Luck! |
