Always faithful/semper fidelis has way more meaning than "we try to understand." Sounds like something an appeasor would say. Marines are not appeasors.

Sure, but first you will have to kill off all the current Marines, or at least capture them and imprison them all on a desert island or somewhere where they can't escape. Then send in your new drill instructors, and take all the new recruits and beat the crap out of them until they say the new motto.

Every marine will act as they've been trained to do, that's how the marines are designed. Erase them totally and draw something new. It doesn't work with marines who have already been trained, they will say semper fi until they are six feet under, but you could do that with new marines.

You could avoid having to defeat all the current marines. All you have to do is be elected President. The President is commander in chief and the marines must obey his orders, like it or not.

i think the problem is you have probably never met a marine. i suggest you look for one, it should be easy, they stick out. just look for someone with pride and the look on their face that says i have been to hell and come back so don't f*** with me.(oh and perfect posture-they all have that) and ask him/her. if they don't laugh at you and walk away they will be kind enough to explain that marines do not try to understand. they don't care. They really are "always faithful", once a marine always a marine. no one can take that away from them,they earned the right to say "Semper Fi" to their brothers and sisters in the Corps. You didn't, so even suggesting that they should change something you can't understand the true meaning of is laughable at best.

Marines are not paid to think or understand. They just do what they are told, which is preferably kill and die, and not necessarily in that order.
