The military is very strong in preserving tradition. For example, Pararescue jumper is a career field that ONLY men can enter... no if's, and's, or but's.
What will the world come to when tradition is no longer preserved anywhere? Let's face it, nothing is and never will be equal 100%.
I'm a female in the military by the way, and it doesn't bother me one bit that I'm not allowed into a male only college. More power to them. I think that once the women earn their right to the top by other means (and not by blowing our way to the top) that in turn, we're a might more respected for how hard we've worked. |

I am a woman I don't believe most women can make good leaders because they tend to make decisions based solely on emotion. This is not the case for all women just most. Do I think they should be shut out of schools sure if its a mens only school but there should be a womans only school as an alternate |

i served with some women in the army and while some were a waist of uniform there were others that shined and were great leaders. However if your referring to leadership in a demanding role like infantry then i would not include women in leadership roles. I think respectfully there is so much they can do. i was in a transportation unit and seen some women lay down some fire and bust their butts working just as hard if not harder than some lazy males. there were a couple girls who always volunteered to go on missions traveling through hot zones. and while i have the utmost respect and admiration for those women, we cant expect them to go run off and become rangers. |

Leadership knows no gender. I served 23 years in the US Military and have known exceptional male and female leaders. Leadership is a function of trust earned, integrity shown, and competence displayed. I don't think any one gender has the market cornered on those things. |

In my opinion No. Because other countries would take us for being weak for giving a woman so much power. You have to remember that America is one of the only few places that let woman have a lot of power. |

Yah to be in the milatary we have to be strong and have bravery and so on but that does NOT mean that we cant be in the army, navy, coastguard, ETC. It does NOT MATTER. We girls can proove we are as strong as men anytime we want. I bet you most of the girls in the marines for example would beat lots of those boys out there(i mean the ones not in the marines!) So i think it is very very very unfair that some people think that females(women) cant go into the milatary. i am only 12 yrs old and i have been dreaming my hole life to be in the marines and i hope eventually i will be |

It depends on how far they go. Motherhood is a higher calling and it is very difficult to do that and be a leader in the military or the corporate world for that matter. I don't think both can be done well at the same time. I certainly wouldn't attempt it. I couldn't do my job if I didn't have my wife at home keeping things in line. Having her come to war with me just wouldn't make sense at all. And I have no intention of raising my grandchildren because my daughters feel like going off to war.
For women bent on being military leaders to the end without becoming wives/mothers, it can be done, but I don't think they are normally wired for that. Women that strive for that kind of leadership and power are in my experience too brutal on their subordinates to add value to the organization. Seen it, lived it, had enough, thank you. |

I see no disparity between women leaders and male, perhaps you should look at the positions held by world leaders that are female, America is no different. When a woman steps up to the plate that has invested her self to the job at hand her qualifications will assure her the position. This is a self pitting attitude to surmise that women can not attain these positions and is self defeating at best. Stop pandering to your self and get up and do something to answer your own questions |

Okay my point of view i had at least three very effective female leaders in the Military. On the other hand i had just as many ineffective female leaders. The count for males were much higher but equivalent in statistics because of male female roles. |

I do believe it is unfair but, in all fairness women deal with alot of problems different than men. Women are more swift and changeable, while men are more rigid and stern when it comes to the same situation. I believe we look at matters totally opposite and that comes from what we learnt from birth, from mother to the father. |

without knowing which country you are referring to and its cultural past, I cannot give you an answer. In a country heavily Muslim, for instance, I would be less won't to say it isn't fair simply because of the cultural norms of such a nation. and just because one country does things a certain way does NOT mean every country should do things that way.
In the Unites States, it has been proven that Women can and do make fine Military officers and Leaders, and many have successfully challenged polices excluding female applicants to such places as the Citadel, VMI and even the Military Academies.
if you live in a country where females are not allowed to attend military campuses despite meeting all physical and mental standards, then you have 2 choices: work within the system to change the policies, or emigrate legally to a country where you can attend such military colleges. |

Don't know what country you are referring to, but the United States does not have any MALE only military schools anymore. The Naval Academy, AF Academy, Coast Guard Academy as well as West Point for the Army and the VMI (Virginia Military Institute) are all open to women if they are equally qualified to be there. No college is going to allow you in unless you are qualifed including these institutuions. If you are referring to another country, that is your countries problem not ours. Be specific in your generalizations when asking a question here. The military has tons of well trained and outstanding military leaders that are woman. I being one of them. Figure out your facts before throwing out such blanket incorrect statements if you are talking about the USA, because you are dead wrong when it comes to our military and our military academies! |
