If you are in the USA, you can. As far as other countries I don't know.
Here check out this website. It will tell you everything you want to know about how to "get out of things" in any US Military branch. It covers everything from the DEP program to UA charges. Hell, it will even give you free legal advice from actual lawyers over the phone.

Yes you can still back out and the only way you can't is if you actually leave for bootcamp. When you're getting ready to leave, they'll ask you if you've done drugs or anything else and they'll tell you that you can still back out and you won't get in trouble for it. |

Yes as a matter of fact you can drop out all the way thru boot camp. They swear you in when you leave for boot camp but the that isn't the REAL one. Very close to the end of boot camp, they swear you in again and that's for real not backing out then.
Oh, and DO NOT ask your recruiter, he/she will NOT tell you the truth
AWOL is Absent With Out Leave ummmm you can't be AWOL unless you are in the military |

If you've already sworn in there's no backing out now if you do you will be a wall and that's jail time. |

If you actually swore in, you are done. But, untill you enlist, you can back out. If you are already enlisted, you not going would be AWOL or Failure to go, both prosecutable offenses. Find out what you actually signed, or just MAN UP and go... I was in the AF for 22 years, I tried to back out before I went, but looking back now, it was the best decision of my life, Good Luck. |

only way out is physical impairment,, or mental breakdown and it will give you a dishonorable discharge.
my youngest can only see three feet out of his left eye, so he isn't acceptable..that is physical impairment. Breakdown, his friend cried and flipped out at boot camp and came home within two weeks. |

Yes you can back out. I did the same with the marines. There aren't any consequences other than if the difficulty in ever enlisting again |

You should call and ask the person that recruited you or whoever is in charge. They are the best person to ask this question because you definitely don't wanna get into trouble with the army. |

i dunno about before but i just got out the military and i know if you go to the meps and talk to them tell'em you got family problems and dont wanna leave they cant really do anything if that dont work and you still have to go you can get out of the military as long as its before 6 months u get a honerable discharge and everything they just say its failure to adapt good lucc |

yes you can, and there's not really too much that can be done. you wont be able to enlist ever again after that. And if they really wanted to they could throw you in jail. (you signed a paper granting them this right when you swore in) I've never seen it happen though.
and to clear this up for everyone on here making erroneous claims.
you can get out up to 6 months of enlistment. its called failure to adapt, or hardship. they can be hard to get but can be done,
if you back out you get an honorable discharge??? that's ridiculous |
