Like the others said, they'll ask what your preferences are, but more often than not, they'll send you to the exact opposite of what you'd like.
A guy in a bar the other week was telling me how his brother was in the Coast Guard and they said "Where would you rather be stationed: Hawaii or Alaska?" The brother obviously preferred Hawaii to Alaska but he said "Oh my god, it's been a dream of my wife's to live up in Alaska, if we got stationed up there it would make her so happy. Alaska's my preference!"
He found out he was going to Hawaii.

You can state your duty station preferences, but the military sends you where they need you. It's their choice, not yours. |

You can give a list of locations on your dream sheet but it's usually only after you have served a tour overseas. |

No. You may give preferences. But the military will deploy you wherever they feel you're needed. Ultimately, you will have no choice. You must go wherever you're ordered to go. |

You will be given a "wish list" where you will state your preferences, but ultimately the Army will send you wherever your job skill is needed. |

You can ask for 3 places on a "wish list"
It's up to the military to put you where they need you. |

Yes, if you happen to like the same places the Army or Navy likes. It's up to where you're needed. It's more important to keep an open mind and like where you're at. |

im in the army. you can go online and request a particular duty station but that doesn't mean you will get it. they send you where they need you to go. its based on your MOS and the amount of personnel they need |

It depends on what your job or MOS is and if there is an opening (position) there. |

You can put down places you want to be stationed at but it doesn't mean you will get sent there.
It all depends on them and whether your particular job (MOS ) is available at that certain base or post. |

You will go where you are needed at the time. You can if you are in the top 5 of A School/AIT put in where you want to go but that doenst mean that you will be able to go there. And if you are with the Navy and married, you will be limited to where you can go your first enlistment on accompanied orders. Usually OCONUS assignments are out until you make E4/E5 so if you go there you will go without your family. |

You get to fill out a dream sheet, however, the military will send you where they need you. |

The military will ask you where you would like to be stationed. They will then station you wherever they need you most. But they'll take your desires into consideration. |

They will ask you where you want to go right when you get to basic or maybe at MEPS then it depends what your job is for example, if you choose to work in medical or supply or accounting, any of the common MOS's that are needed at every base you have a better chance to get what you want. BUT if you choose a job like infantry or signal only can get assigned to bases with infantry or signal units which is not every base |
