Can you earn the ranger tab in the reserves as a 68w (health care specialist)?

If you don't want to be on active duty but you want schools, you need to go Guard. If you're a line medic assigned to an Infantry battalion, it's a lot easier to justify than it is a medical company guy who is responsible for checking in patients and taking the vitals at a field hospital. The Guard also opened thier own Pre-Ranger Course, Pathfinder, and Air Assault course to meet the growing need for advanced courses in the Reserve component, especially the combat arms units that are only in the Guard and not the Reserves. If you definitely want a chance to go to Ranger school, you need to be a medic assigned to an Airborne Cavalry Squadron in a Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, as many of the NCO slots there are V (Ranger Parachutist) identified.

The better question is - will your unit send you to Ranger school?

Bruce is right. Your bigger challenge will be in getting your unit to even send you to Ranger School. Reserves / Guard do not get a lot of slots and many units would rather not spend the money.

Talk to your training NCO about school opportunities within your unit.

If you are able to get a slot through your unit, it's very possible to get a Ranger tab. You simply need to have the physical abilities, field knowledge and motivational attitude to carry you through.

EDIT: It means your unit will send you to Ranger School if they have a reason for you to attend a tactical leadership school AND they have the funds for it.

It is possible, but unlikely.

It cost your unit money to send someone to Ranger School.

A medic has no need to take a combat leadership course.

Who are you gonna be leading in combat ?

And they certainly aren't gonna do it on your first enlistment.

If you REALLY want to go ranger and get that W1 identifier, your best bet would be to reenlist for it or go active duty. Its highly unlikely that your unit will just send you to ranger school. They're not going to just tab you up, especially if being a ranger has nothing to do with your units mission.

They definitly need Ranger Medics though in the active army.

Yes you can.
They lifted the restriction on Rangers a few years ago, just before I got out of the Army.
It used to be only for Infantry related MOS's. But now they will send almost any one from any MOS who qualifies.
My advice is to do extremely well on your next PT test, study up on Infantry type things, try your best to do well at the next shooting range, go Air Borne. You will need that all for Rangers.

Yes you can. The issue would be funding. Most reserve units dont have the money to sent soldiers to Ranger School. As a Ranger Medic im happy to hear that your motivated to try!!!RLTW
