Can you get finger tattoos in the military?

I'm asking this because my husband is in the Marines and because if his job he never really wears his wedding ring.

He was thinking of getting a ring tattoo, or some words or something on his ring finger where the wedding band would go, but I'm wondering if that is against military policy.

I know you can no longer get tattoos in places that are not covered by your uniform, but what about on your finger?

What do you mean max? He has no other tattoos and this would be the only one.

It could be that the tattoos that people have showing predate their joining the service. Or they got them without asking permission first and took the punishment.

The official word is that you're not allowed to get anything that the uniform doesn't cover after you join. At least that's what we were told when we asked about DH getting a "wedding" ring tattoo. And that's after they had to cut his ring off his finger (the other choice was to cut the finger off) when it got smashed up by some machinery.

By Army regulation you are not allowed to have any tattoos that show while the solider is wearing the dress uniform (with the coat).

I'm a Navy wife- and yes I've seen a lot of guys with tattoos where there wedding ring would go. I've also seen a lot of guys with tattoos not covered by their uniforms... so I think as long as it's simple and small it will go unnoticed and won't be an issue.
