Can you get off post housing in the 68W M6 program?

My husband and I are dual army. Our MOS is 68W. We are thinking about reenlisting to get a M6 identifier. I know that the training is atleast a year. I want to know if since we have a 1 year old daughter if it's possible to get an apartment off post.

Yes, you can apply for on-post housing. The availability will depend on the post you are assigned to, and how many people are on the wait list for that rank and number of bedrooms needed.
M6 is 52 weeks long, so if you have a long wait, you may not get housing until late in the course. Then you would have to deal with moving on-post in the middle of your class, and then moving again after you graduate.
If you apply for M6, however, you can put in for housing once you have orders for your phase 2 site. Check with the post where you will be going, to see if you can fax or mail your application. Some require it to be submitted in person.
Several of my previous students did live on-post during M6 training @ Ft Lewis, WA.
