No it is not permitted by any force.Because of the UK police role in the event of of war all officers are considered a reserved occupation and even if you join the police from the services all reserve obligations are cancelled whilst a serving police officer.I am more than a little surprised someone claiming to be a detective sergeant wouldn't be able to find this out themselves and resort to this site. |

contact the TA and check with union rep for conflicts in contract. as long as you can fulfill requirements with both entity's it should be ok. |

Yes, but you have to get permission first |

It would be best to ask them. |

The Police like having Territorials in their force, and the Territorial Army just love having Policemen join up.
Constables bring with them a lot of skills and good personal qualities into a military environment. Consider other options besides the Military Police if you can - do something fun and different.
I know one guy who used to live in the UK - was a Territorial Army Para and a Metropolitan Policeman, before moving to Australia and joining the local equivalents. |

The police is a restricted profession, so I seriously doubt the T.A. would be interested.
You can't deploy to two places in a civil emergency, you can't guarantee your availability for training and they certainly can't send you into combat overseas.
The T.A. by the way is very much like Dads Army. Officers tend to have high profile occupations, so a Detective Sergeant might find himself an enlisted man - you would be borderline, it's very much a boys club :o) |

If you mean the American National Guards or Reserves, by all means join up. Many of our county police personnel are on active duty and will come back to their old jobs when their Iraq tours are over. |

I see no reason why you can't. When I was with the Territorial Army, there were quite a few Police personnel there. Of course, you would need to go through officer's training, and that would take extra time from your job on "civvie street". Sign-up now, cheers! |

Yes you can join if you join a specialist Military Police Unit. I suspect with your background they will probably slot you into some aspect of the SIB. Don't expect to go into an Infantry unit, and you will have a reduced commitment.
Bear in mind that in the current climate you will be expected to serve in a war zone within 3 years of joining up. Probably training local police.
Cheers |

I am a serving police officer and I have been looking into this. The police are no longer looked at as a reserved occupation. You can sign up for the TA but through the HR department you will need to get permission of your chief constable. RMP requires basic training and two weeks training to get your red cap. RMP are highly deployable and unless you have a large amount of police experience or military experience you will be embedded with an infantry company |
