Anyone go to Ft Jackson for basic training in the past year? do they let you keep your phone or do you have to give it up? also do you really get Sundays off?

Cell phones are not banned at basic training anymore. There is no real regulation for cell phone use in basic training, the use of cell phones is regulated 100% by the company commander. So if you are doing the right thing the Drill Sergeant won't have to make the recomendation to take phones away. Now keep in mind the first three weeks of training is called total control and Soldiers may not be authorized cell phones until a later date. |

Great question! Excited to hear that you are apparently going to Ft. Jackson for basic training.
You can not keep your cell phone! There is a possibility that at some point you will earn the privilege of using your cell phone on certain times during the weekend during white or blue phase which are part way through basic training. So bring it... but be prepared for them to lock it up.
Almost every week you will get Sunday morning off to afford soldiers the chance to attend religious services. Afternoons on Sunday will vary depending on your drill sergeants, but we usually didn't do much, just barracks maintainance and... WAXING :D lots of waxing.
PS. In response to the above above your glasses, that is patently wrong, the Army will issue you glasses also, civilian glasses are not authorized. You will get BCGs. Why are they called BCGs? Well that is Birth Control Goggles, because no one has ever gotten laid while wearing them. No joke. |

My fiance just got out of basic.. he didn't go to Ft. Jackson buttttttttt he did get a pass just about every Sunday... they don't let you KEEP your cell phone WITH you but they do give it to you when you get pass... |

The only thing you will have that is not issued to you are your glasses. You get Sundays off only by the broadest definition of having a day off. In fact, I can't come up with a definition that broad. There are no classes scheduled on Sundays, but you certainly are not free to do as you wish. |
