Can you really get accelerated navy advancement?

I am a Navy DEPer and I am wondering if I really can get automatic E-2 by taking a test on a booklet that they give you. Also on the recruit a friend thing

YES you can be advanced for completing the DEP Booklet. You can also get advanced in Bootcamp if the RDC's think someone stands out and deserves it. You will not, however; see any rank until you complete bootcamp.

The whole "recruit a friend thing" is semi true. There is a "Recruiting Referral Recognition Program that was set up to reward people for giving names to recruiters and referring those interested in the naval service".

The program offers non-recruiters rewards such as Navy/Marine Corps Achievement and Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals to those officers and enlisted Sailors who refer qualified individuals to the Navy. The program is also open to federal employees and Delayed Entry Program Personnel. It excludes those working directly for CNRC.

Yes, if you take (and pass) the test on the booklet they give you in DEP, you will get E-2.

If you refer enough people, you can get advancement up to E-3, but I don't know how many people you have to refer. Talk to your recruiter for details.

Other things that can accelerate advancement: college credits, Eagle Scout, JROTC.
