Child support and millitary?

i am married but i have a child by someone else that i pay child support for i know u cant enlist as a single parent but how does this work can i enlist

I think other posters are missing the point. You state "i am married" well that means that you are NOT a single parent at all which would require a waiver and signing over full custody. You are married with a spouse, therefore the only waiver you might need because of the child is if you have more than 3 dependents, meaning you and your spouse have 2 children together and the child then makes it 3 children. If you do not have any other children then you shouldn't have any other issues. You may need to speak to the child's mother about child support as the pay in the military will not necessarily be more than what you are making now and that it can take up to 9 weeks before you will see your first pay.

I was in the same situation, when I joined. I had to get a waiver. There should be no reason why they wouldn't let you join.

you can get your child as a dependent so your X can get medical benefits for the kid.

I don't know how this would effect enlistment but I don't see a problem

As long as you continue to pay your child support on time you will be fine. The only way a problem will arise is if the person you are paying child support to contacts the military and says you are not paying. Even then, a investigation will be launched and if you are doing what you are supposed to do, you will be fine.

It really depends on how much custody you have, if you have 50/50 you will need a waiver to enlist. With the whole child support thing, just make sure you make a monthly allotment for her also if it is court mandated and you were making more before you got into the military i would recommend going back to court to get it lowered until you go up in rank. Coming into the military was a BIG pay cut for me, but the best decision i made. When it comes to the child as long as you are paying child support and you are supporting the child it can be listed as a dependent not living with you and still gets medical but not full it would just be tri care standard

You just list them as a dependant so they are covered by your medical insurance and you can pay your support by monthly allotment directly from your paycheck if you want to.

It is possible, but you have additional requirements, mainly a Family Care Plan has to be completed and approved. You can enlist as soon as it is determined you are qualified.
