Civil war and total anarchy. I think Bush had plans for permanent US bases in Iraq so probably American troops will never leave their newly acquired colony. |

Yes, and it will last for years. |

A civil war is what the Americans always wanted and on past record I would not put it past either the US or the UK to be actually stoking up the sectarian violence. they need a good excuse, after all, to stay for as long as the oil flows. |

50 or more bodies found every day, consistantly, yep that is a civil war. With the present administration we will never leave as they are reaping to much profit from it. |

How can Iraq have a Civil War when there is no Fort Sumter there? After all, Donald (Little Torture) Rumsfeld said a little while back it "wasn't like our" Civil War. |

how do "You"define a civil war? Yes in my opinion it developed into a civil war at least a year ago.As to when the occupying troops will leave,as soon as Mr Bush can get them out;he will then depend on air power to enforce his ideas of democracy.............which will fail....It appears that the whole exercise has been a futile waste of human lives. It is an example of the consequences of failed diplomacy |

We keep hearing how if we pull out, Iraq will fall into civil war, and civil war is the worst possible end result after all of our years there. but why can't we just do this:
Shift ideology completely, admit that our presence there isn't making much of a difference... and then stop pretending like civil war is such a bad thing. Explain that there is nothing we can do to prevent civil war, since its what the people of Iraq obviously want, so why not let them have it. Innocents will die of course, but s**t happens, it's war. You can't save everyone. Besides they're dying anyway in record numbers.
So if we pull the troops and let the Sunnis and the Shites sort out their crap for the next 5 or so years until theres a clear winner, we can make trade relations with the leader of the winning side, to get access to the oil (since that's really the only reason we went in the first place despite all the rhetoric). And if this new leader doesn't want to play nice, take him out like we did Saddam...let civil war ensue again...repeat ad nauseism.
Ok maybe it's not all touchy-feely like "LETS SPREAD DEMOCRACY!!!" but still it would probably be a better approach since it could actually work, plus it frees up the military for things that actually might make a difference. |

Sorry, thought your question was an offer.
For many Iraqis the situation is far worse than before the fall of Saddam Husein.
You cannot impose a system of government on another country. A lesson of history which has not yet been learnt, and probably never will be. Problem is, that having created chaos, it's difficult for the foreign troops to withdraw. Although there is a precedent. Vietnam 1975 - when the Amis decided enough was enough and left the Vietnamese to their fate.
Could it happen again? Yes. |

Best thing is to leave Iraq altogether and let those who think they are tough kill the rest. As long as they need to get the oil out for us to finance their stupidity, leave them to it. Nobody is forced to have a civil war. |

A civil-war..... sounds good to me. Keep our troops in the barracks and let the ragheads kill each other. Then when it is all over, bring our boys home :-) |

Shi'ites and Sunni's don't get along at all. I'm not sure why they keep killing eachother though. America had a goal when we had a civil war. These guys, there goal is to keep their country as crappy as possible I think. I've talked to some Iraqi's here locally, I'm in Baghdad and asked them what they think is going on. What I got out of it was this. Iraqi Police(IPs) are corrupt. I've been setting up TCP(Traffic Control Points) for the IPs to man. They'll let a terrorist right threw for some money and they know they have a car bomb on board. The Iraqi said he wanted Americans to man the TCPs which would just be a suicide mission. So I said you look like a good citizen that would take your job as an IP seriously why don't you go man the TCPs. Well he danced around the question and said its against his religion to kill people. I said its against mine too. Anyway, he said there is about 10,000-20,000 insurgents/bad guys in the Baghdad area. Theres around 5 million citizens in Baghdad. They are all allowed to own 1 AK-47. So I said form a neighborhood watch program. That way they could get rid of these guys themselves. A lot more of them are dying then Americans. Anyway 4 million plus AK-47s versus 20k bad guys it wouldn't be much of a fight. I think its time these guys stand up on their own and learn to fight for themselves. If we leave right now Iraq will be the biggest mess its even been. |

No. My official line is that everything is fine and democracy is working.
Ten years but there will always be troops present even in a small capacity like So. Korea |

I think civil war is too good a title to hang on what is going on there. I believe there are a lot of unhappy people in the middle east who wish to follow some warped version of Islam and find it easy to lash out at Americans and a people who have been repressed for thirty years but we freed. The Iraqis deserve a chance to be free and happy like everyone else and when we finally track down and shoot the last militant extremist they can do so. |
