Civilian College or a Military Academy?

I'm planning on - one way or another - joining the Marine Corps. I've decided to go to college beforehand. What are some pros and cons for attending a military academy such as United States Naval Academy? What are some pros and cons for attending a civilian college?
P.S. - Either way, I'd come out 2nd Lieutenant. If I went to civilian college, I could talk to (iforgotthename) and go to OCS. Or, I could do ROTC. If I went to the USNA, I would also come out the same way. I believe that's correct!

Yes, no matter what you get the commission. There is nothing wrong with doing NROTC at a civilian college, but if you truly want to challenge yourself and get very prepared for the military lifestyle, attend the Academy or a senior military college. The guy above me said Norwich, which is a SMC. I visited there, I thought it was a very nice place, and yes, they do have an excellent Marine Option program,they commission the most USMC officers other than the Academy. It's your choice though, I'm sure you will do whatever is in your best interest. |

The Naval Academy has prestige. I decided to become a Naval Officer late in my college career. I will be attending OCS to become an Ensign in the Navy next year. I will be going into their Nuclear Engineering program. I want to be a sub commander. |

Try a military college.
Try Norwich University. I go to this school and they have a pretty good Marine Corp ROTC.

you could go to a civilian college, junior military college for 2 years, senior military college, or an academy. I would strive for a senior military college or an academy. Also some junior military colleges have 2 year prep programs to get you into an academy if you can't get in as a freshman. It depends on how long your going to serve in the military and what you want to do when you get out. If your going to make the military a career it would be a better to attend an academy. |
