what do we need to have to become an Boatswain's Mate(coast guard)

You'll have to talk to a recruiter for exact specifications, but BM's are responsible for the proper navigation and preservation of our cutters and small boats. People make fun of BM's, but it is actually a hard rating to perform well in.

Not a heck of a lot....

Boatswains Mate is not exactly a rating in the USCG or USN that requires being insanely talented. If you like boating and seamanship then you'll enjoy it.
