Code pink in Berkeley calls Marines killers, do you agree with them?

On the site, if you click on the second picture, this is the slogan on a protest board "Join the Marines, travel to exotic places, meet exciting unusual people, and kill them"

As much as I disagree with code pink, thats kind of funny. Not true but funny none the less. My favorite bumper sticker on my car says"USMC...... When it absolutely posatively has to be destroyed over night"

jeligula
That is so ignorant. I have heard this since I was a little kid and I am no longer a spring chicken. Yes, I was trained to kill in the Marine Corps. Did I? No.

Code Pink - the name says it all, don't you think?

The Marines are trained to kill but not murder. Even the Bible draws this distinction. The Commandment reads: "You shall not murder" not "You shall not kill." So, if Code Pink observes that Marines kill, who cares? It is because of the sacrifice of the military that Code Pink can open their mouths and be so wrong.

R>V<N =^,,^=
No ! I strongly disagree ! Why do they not hold up signs saying thank you for serving our nation and thanks for all the GOOD you have done by being there first in many cases to help people with relief supplies where there have been floods , and the like ?!
These Marines , my brothers , do a whole lot of good in this world !
!!!SEMPER FIDELIS !!!

My friend from high school had a t-shirt that said that and that was like 10 - 15 years ago, so thumbs up for them being unoriginal and no I don't agree with them.

Not unless they waste a few hundred code pinkos.

Ah, but this is Berzerkley, which has been a radical domain since the 1960s (at least) with a resulting Code Pinko refuge.

State and federal funds being withheld from the cities amounts to more than potholes, as does big business taking business elsewhere.

It's a portion of citizenry which does not recognize that WE are a NATION at war. They feel we are a nation whose military is at war.

There's a stark difference.

I just signed in to Answers to ask this very same question. Thank's for doing it for me. I am absolutely disgusted about this. I would like to know how this dispicable behavior makes our soldiers feel? The following may also be of interest.

BERKELEY, Calif. — Local officials in this liberal city say it's time for the U.S. Marines to move out.

The City Council has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and "if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests."

The measure passed this week by a vote of 8-1.

The council also voted to explore enforcing a city anti-discrimination law, focusing on the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

In a separate item, the council voted, also 8-1, to give protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

The recruiting office opened in Berkeley about a year ago, operating quietly until about four months ago when Code Pink began regular sidewalk protests.

"I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here, and they should leave," said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates.

Code Pink is circulating petitions to get a measure on the ballot in November making it more difficult to open military recruiting offices in Berkeley if they are near homes, parks, schools, churches, libraries or health clinics.

From news release:

Senators Introduce Semper Fi Act of 2008 Bill
Stops Berkeley Earmarks and Transfers Funds to Marine Corps

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia), Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and David Vitter (R-Louisiana) introduced the Semper Fi Act of 2008. The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley, California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) is introducing a companion bill in the House of Representatives.

Last week, the City Council of Berkeley voted to oust Marine Corps recruiters from their downtown office, saying the Marines were "uninvited and unwelcome intruders." Berkeley officials also voted to give the radical protest group Code Pink space outside the recruitment office and urged them to "impede, passively or actively" the work of Marine Corps recruiters.

One earmark provides $243,000 in taxpayer dollars for the organization Chez Panisse <>http://www.chezpanisse.com/> to create gourmet organic school lunches in the Berkeley School District. Chez Panisse is dedicated to "environmental harmony" and their menu features "Comté cheese soufflé with mâche salad," "Meyer lemon éclairs with huckleberry coulis," and "Chicory salad with creamy anchovy vinaigrette and olive toast."

Another earmark would spend $975,000 in taxpayer dollars for the University of California in Berkeley Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service, to create a new endowment and cataloging the papers of Congressman Robert Matsui. U.C. Berkeley currently already has a $3.5 billion endowment.

Senator Inhofe: "Unfortunately, those on the Berkeley city council do not seem to understand the sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Marine Corps. By interfering with military recruiting, the city of Berkeley is hampering our ability to protect this nation. While the city of Berkeley and the protestors are free to say whatever they like, free speech is not a protection from consequence."

Senator DeMint: "Berkeley needs to learn that their actions have consequences. Patriotic American taxpayers won't sit quietly while Berkeley insults our brave Marines and tries to run them out of town. Berkeley City Council members have shown complete ingratitude to our military and their families, and the city doesn't deserve a single dime of special pet project handouts."

Senator Cornyn: "The Berkeley City Council insulted our troops and offended people across the country. If the U.S. Marines are not good enough for Berkeley, neither are taxpayer dollars Congress would have sent there this year. That city closed its doors on the same individuals taking bullets on the front lines while fighting for the safety and freedom of families in Berkeley and throughout America."

Senator Vitter: "The actions of the City Council of Berkeley are in stark contrast to beliefs of the vast majority of Americans who recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of our U.S. Marines. This is simply unacceptable and those funds could be better utilized by the Marine Corps."

Dr. Coburn: "The actions by the city of Berkeley are deplorable and insulting to those who are serving and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect the very freedoms that are being exercised to insult them. I know I stand with the majority of Americans in thanking our service men and women for their selfless service to our nation."

Senator Chambliss: "We need to send a strong message that our military personnel deserve our strongest support. Georgia is a proud military state, and my constituents will be out outraged to know that during a time of war, their taxpayers dollars have been used to reward folks who have insulted and disparaged those who defend this nation every day."

It is Berkeley...they will protest anything. But no, I do not agree with them. I just hope they remember to thank the USMC and other branches for preserving their freedom to express their opinions before they boot them out.

They kill so we can survive. They don't do it for pleasure and many come back home with nightmares or anxieties. And they shouldn't forget many of our soldiers have died overseas so we can have our freedom here in the states. I don't agree as to why the war is going on but If it keeps us safe from the terroists I'm for it. My boyfriend is in the USMC and is going on deployment for the second time in less then a year. He's only been back for 2 months and they are sending him back. So they should realize how hard it is for those families that need to say goodbye to thier son, husband, father, boyfriend etc. UGH!

If I have to pick between being a "killer" and being a "victim" then killer is fine with me.

Those people will more than likely never have to protect themselves because there are people like me who will do so for them aka Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, even Police Officers.

In this case the "killers" have taken on the burden of being designated as such for the sake and well being of the very people accusing them.

It sickens me that these people are so ungrateful.

You can let those limp dic*s say what they want! For those that became Marines namely Marine Corps Infantry we took an oath. If some winny college boy, whats to debate to death that's fine. Marines are killers that what we do! Period! There were many before us and many will follow. We all have the proud right to claim the Title of a US Marine.

"Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF MY LIFE.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!"

No, I don't. Soldiers are cogs in the machine. You can't blame the cogs when they are acting within the boundaries of their duties. There are some individual soldiers who do some really bad things, thinking that they can get away with them in a war zone (and they're probably right in many cases). But the military as a whole cannot be broadly culpable of war crimes.

Code Pink and other trouble making, extreme liberal domestic terrorists are brainwashed fools and hippies with drug problems. The drugs that they take are bending their minds away from a conservative and sensible mindframe so that they cannot function properly.

Of course Marines and other servicepeople are supposed to kill "enemies" and that's it. Sometimes innocent bystanders get in the way, but that's life (and death)..... It is difficult to avoid and the military is getting condemned for doing so by Code Pink and those domestic terrorists. Accidents do happen, but the domestic terrorists don't know because they don't care about the US, support our enemies and are cowards for judging the military but don't want to join!

I'd say we should round them up at all demonstrations that the they start and build a "prison" of sorts like Guantanamo Bay and keep all Code Pink and domestic terrorist hippies inside for life, so that all of the US can live in peace without having to hear anti war, anti Republican and anti American garbage from them.

As the sargent points out in Full Metal Jacket "god loves the Marines, because we kill, everything we see."

We've killed plenty, and rightfully so in Iraq, but likely 5 times more innocent folks, for no apparent reason.

They have even killed plenty of their own, including Pat Tillman.

bruce
Lots of clever ways to rationalize that the marines murder people that had no intention to come to the USA or bother us, just because a superior officer told them to do it. Lots of jingles, too, about how they are 'saving our lives' so that we can kick them in the teeth, or whatever guilty twist they put onto the ending. Perhaps those same people need to listen to the words of Smedley Butler and read about his life, then tell me what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3_EXqJ8f-0 If you have a comment, let it be YOUR OWN thought, not parroting the words of the military.
