Yes i believe it will happen again, communist or not....
It is all based on M.A.D. (Mutual Assured Destruction), and the idea behind this is in order to secure peace, we must be prepared for war. The US created a bomb, then the russians did the same...to be delivered by aircraft, which Russia and the US were about the same on. US finds a way to place a warhead on a long range missle, russia does the same to match. A way is found to deliver nukes from a submurine, the other side struggled to match once again. The list goes on and on, both sides feel as though neither side will strike if the enemy can produce the same results in return, total destruction.
This is why the Cuban crisis was such a big deal, the Russians were strategically placing nukes in cuba, it being so close to the USA, would have reduced America's response time to strike back down to nothing, Russia would have destroyed all America'a silos before they even got off the ground. Kennedy said this was unacceptable, and blocked the nuclear weapons from making it to Cuba...we shook up the whole world as we thought WWIII was going to happen...luckily Russia backed down that time.
The cold war never really ended, it just calmed down a bit....and it took place in other nations as well. India and Pakistan are long time enemies, when one side developed nuclear weapons, the United States allowed it, BUT also 'gave' the other side the same technology. This way, in theory, neither side would launch against the other because it would mean thier own destruction as well...like I said, Mutual Assured Destruction.
Speaking of current times, when the last Cold War 'ended', everything between Russia and America was pretty much balanced. No matter which side launched first, the other was certain to be destroyed via counter-strike...which eliminated the fear of nuclear war. However, If a defense net was placed around Europe, this would disrupt the balance and open up the possibility that Russia's counter measures to a strike would fail....which means the west would sustain less hits and probably survive the counterstrike for the most part. Even if Russia hit first, the net would in theory, prevent many of thier missles from touching down, buying the West time to strike back in full force. So basically, Russia is responding in the same way the US did when they tried to place missles in Cuba.
If the US successfully places a defense net in Europe, then its certain the russians will either create thier own, or threatend to strike the net. Either way....a new cold war begins.... |

Bush told Putin that he would like Russia to help him with the system. It is not an offensive weapon. It is for protecting East Europe from a 4th Generation long range missile Iran is making.
Iran's new missile has a range of 1500 miles so it can hit Europe. You people should really research things before bad mouthing the U.S. all the time. |

Isn't it very generous of the Americans to want to build a missile defence system in eastern Europe!- or perhaps not!
For whats its worth the Americans want to build the system to protect America not Europe! - The Americans are looking for ways that will give them the edge over any opponent! - Having early warning radar and anti missile systems in eastern Europe gives them that extra edge - adds valuable minutes in missile detection - flight time - knock down and ultimately retaliation time should an enemy lunch missiles at the continental US. |

There are two major spy groups on this planet. One are the Russians and the other is UK-USA.
To be honest, the Cold War never really ended. The fall of the Berlin wall was simply a method of allowing the KGB to walk over pretending to be East Berliners, now ready to embrace democracy.
Fat chance. Once you've created a big secret service, you just cannot shut it all down overnight.
Look at it like this. At the end of WW2 where do you think all those Gestapo chiefs went to? Many ended up as police chiefs in East Germany. How else did the E.Germans create the dreaded Staci so quickly. The entire operation was based upon Gestapo methods. Everyone spied on everyone else and reported bad people to the State.
Same thing here in the West really. UK has a massive SIS [Secret Intelligence Service] over which I'm sure parliament has little or no real control. Best leave it alone then and let it get on with the job in hand. Rounding up the usual suspects etc.
The Brits and the Yanks have been co-operating in the intelligence business for decades. Even before USA entered WW2 and as early as 1940 [would you believe] American Army personnel were here in UK helping to break the German secret codes [Enigma] at Bletchly Park.
Nothing has changed then.
Keep on spying. |

I think its just a bit of macho posturing by Putin to bolster his position in Russia, and relations will improve again after Bush steps down as president in early 2009.
I do think Putin has a point about the US missile defence system though. It's a complete waste of money and resources unless it is actually to be used as a defence against missiles from Russia, and according to Bush "Russia is not our enemy". If it isn't to be used against Russian missiles then, the question must be asked - what is it for? Its certainly not going to stop terrorists or suicide bombers is it? |

I don't believe NATO is Russia's real target ! The US is who humiliated Russia when the Soviet Union broke up, NATO is just a ruse on the part of Russia to get Western Europe shakin in their boots.
Maybe it's time Western Europe stood up to the Russians , and let the US install the missile defenses. Russia's ploy is to divide and conquer and with its bravado on one hand, of threatening Europe by pointing more missiles its way, and secondly , by using it's natural resources as a threat if they don't fall in line, it seems to me that it's time for Western Europe to draw a line in the sand, and show Russia that it still has a pair !
The US can hold it's own against Russia. Russia knows that it's all over but the crying, if it ever attacked the US. So, it's new strategy is to turn traditional allies against each other, that being Western Europe and the US ! |

Foolish mortals.
World War 2 has not yet ended.
Both sides had countermeasures in place in case either side 'lost' the war. The Nazis called their plan ODESSA, while the Allies was named OPERATION GLADIO.
ODESSA was the plan to disperse the highest ranking Nazis: SS (especially the occult bureau 'Ahnenerbe'), having them infiltrate the political systems of other nations to continue the war effort and see the fuhrer's dream of the thousand year reich (a one-world government: the New World Order 'NWO'). This was acheived during one of the Allies' secret missions - 'Operation Paperclip', where Nazis were given new identities in America to work on atomic weaponry. Hitler basically sold the weapons technology to America, then faked his own death and retired to Argentina, where 3 Mossad agents killed him a few years later.
After the allies 'won' the war, they used the GLADIO contingencies to conduct 'false-flag terrorism', in order to secretly control Eurpean politics.
The Cold War was only a stalling tactic - they were buying for time.
As soon as they were ready to begin World War 3 (which is only round 2 of World War 2, which in itself, was only round 2 of World War 1), they made the Soviet Union collapse.
World events have been carefully orchestrated and choreographed into an elaborate masquerade, all by the same cabal!
Don't get me started about the successful time-travel devices that were completed in the 1940s!
Awaken yourselves, puny ones, there is not much time left.
PROJECT BLUE BEAM has already begun. |

The Cold War is like an active volcano, it can emerge and dissipate, blow or lie dormant. The Cold War never effectively went away it just took a back seat while the Statesmen of the post-Cold War era tried to work out what structure the new world political arena was going to look like.
George Bush's initiation of the missile defence programme has indeed heightened tension between the two blocs, and we will see this tension possibly continue into the near future.
If the missile defence programme is setup, if missiles are deployed in Poland, if the Bydr radar station in Czechoslovakia if built, then yes we will be in the midst of a second Cold War. Russia will respond by targeting these missile and radar sites, and will, in addition to this, target key capital cities and major military installations in Europe.
But remember, the Cold War brought massive global military stability, there were peripheral wars, but the two super powers never met on the field of battle themselves.
We should welcome this return to a possible Bi-Polarity. (or multi) |

I think things may turn bad if Russia stays pissed off!
Bush did invite Russian generals to view the missle defense plans the U.S. wants to build but if there is a reasonable peace then what need is there for an MD.
Plus UK is trying to get the supposed killer of Litvyenko extradited but Russia is saying "No"! |
