Correct me if I am wrong, but...isn't sinking a MILITARY SHIP, unproved...by sneak attack...an act of WAR?

What's with all the DIPLOMACY????????

N.Korea ATTACKED and SUNK a MILITARY ship.....KILLING South Korean Sailors.

Now let's skip the state dinners, and what are they gonna DO about that?

Go Go Girls.........you DO know that we still have troops stationed at the DMZ, and that the Korean War has never officially ended, right? I can assure you.......the United States is a player here.

Your ignoring the fact that Seoul is located very, very close to the DMZ. So close in fact, that when it wants to, the North could unleash an artillery barrage that would destroy the city, killing thousands if not tens of thousands. I take it you've never been to Seoul, the city is very high tech, built up, and they definitely do not want it destroyed.

Edit - If you've been there then why didn't you gather your intelligence together to come to the same conclusion as I did. You just can't attack back like it appears you want them to. It's all about saving lives, and preventing war.

Right Wing Extremist
Yes,it is an act of war. However I think it's safe to say,it would still be best if we could avoid all out war between North and South Korea.

There is no peace treaty between North and South Korea. It is still considered an armistice.
Strange things happen on the border and the seas surrounding the two nations.

I served in South Korea and learned a lot about the politics of the North and the South while i was there. Basically, money, supplies, whatever, dries up in the North. They do something to piss off the South (like sink a ship in this case), and then say, "retaliate in any way, and we'll **** your **** up". This scares the piss out of the South, and they say sorry, how can we make peace? Voila, instant forced foreign aid. I've seen it happen over and over and over. You watch, within 6 months the North will get some huge shipment of rice or something to feed the "poor" and will later see it all funneled to the Military.

Yes, and last year the South Koreans sunk a North Korean naval ship KILLING North Korean sailors. I don't recall you shedding any tears then.

Just to reitorate North Korea and South Korea ARE AT WAR and have been since 1950. Incidents like the one in March are almost routine. Now, if it is an all-out shooting war you want then please keep in mind that not only is South Korea one of the largest economic powerhouses in the world and all-out war would lead to a world economic depression that would make 2008 look like a walk in the park, but the last time these two nations had at it SEVERAL MILLION PEOPLE DIED. Is that what you really want? Do you want to kill millions of slant-eyed people just so you can feel tough?

I know everyone hates North Korea but the North Koreans, but try to remember that this all took place in a fairly unsettled area. North Korea and South Korea don't entire agree on where each other ends and begins. BOTH sides have fired on the other in the exact same area in the past. Unfortunately, way more people died in this situation that in past naval conflicts.

So why are there state dinners? Oh, that's right. Because North Korea has nuclear weapons and is completely insane. It would be idiotic for any country, South Korea or America, to engage them when there are other options. I highly doubt Kim Jong-Il or Pyongyang would hesitate to drop a nuke on your head, and I don't think Obama is prepared to respond in kind.

Edit: I'm sorry. Since you obviously perceive yourself to be more intelligent and better equipped at making rational decisions than governments, not to mention everyone who responded to your question, why don't you take a stab at this, m'dear-- What would you have everyone do?

Nuke the **** out of N. Korea first? Well, that's not going to go over so well. See, N. Korea is run by a select number of crazy mo-fos. There are lots and lots of imprisoned, impoverished, and oppressed people who will die so you get to opt out of diplomacy. Not to mention that the second N. Korea perceives the incoming attack -- and you can be damned sure they watch the skies like paranoid schizophrenics -- they're going to fire on absolutely everyone and anyone. Why? Because they're N. Korea and that's how they role.

So, Miss Antagonistic, what do you suggest? We're clearly all inferior minds. Why don't you astound us with your intellect and education?

If I may suggest..., this isn't a DISCUSSION forum, it is a QUESTION and ANSWER forum. Have something you want to know more about, ask and hopefully yee shall recieve. Clearly you don't want to LEARN anything, to reduce your clearly high level of ignorance. It seems you are only interested in finding someone to agree with you. That's fine, but your in the wrong place. If you want to troll about with this back and forth nonsense there are thousands of other appropriate places on the web to do it.

You don't have to worry about the unwitty and un-inciteful retort. I won't be checking back in.

The north has committed many such acts of war over the years, including bombing airliners and trying to assassinate the S.Korean leaders. The fact is that the north has always acted insane, and usually gotten away with it. They are one of the most impoverished nations on earth, in the past they have let huge numbers of their own people to starve rather than accept international help. So, sanctions don't really accomplish much.

No one wants to see the Korean war heat back up since it would be a long and costly war. So, the other nations tolerate these aggressive acts.

Yes, but the players are South Korea and North Korea. So it's up to them as to how they want to deal with this.
