Could I get Air Force benefits for my family if.....?

If I have a kid on the way, but its not born yet, could I get any benefits for it? Also, my girlfriend (the one having the child), could she get any benefits even though we aren't married, yet? Would I be able to bring them with me if and when any moving/transferring was involved, too? I'm not worried about being separated during BMT, that's a given. Its the moving around after BMT that scares me. I don't want to miss my baby being born and I don't want to miss out on raising it either.

no she couldnt get any benefits, the child can once the baby is born. But you guys would have to be married before she got any benefits at all. If you got stationed overseas she couldnt go unless you guys are married. And seeing how your just going to BMT now, you will be living in the dorms when you get to your duty station. Therefore she couldnt go with you. If you guys got married, she'd get benefits, she can get stationed with you and they would pay for her to move with you! |

You can get benefits (health/child support from your check) for the child after it is born.
You girlfriend receives nothing, no health, dental, prenatal care, delivery or anything.....she is on her own. The military will not provide for girlfriends. She needs to be a dependent for benefits.
She can not live on base with you. You will need to be married to receive BAH or base housing. At your rank (I suspect since you are fresh enlisted), you will not recieve BAH as a single man to live off base.
If you want the option of her living with you, and the chance to raise your child.....you need to marry her. The military does not take care of "baby's mamas". |

Your not even eligible to enlist into the Air Force with a child on the way,
Until you get married.
Single parents are not allowed.
Girl friends are non enities to the military. |

You don't get to "play house". If you want to have benefits for you family then you need to legalize the relationship and make your gf your wife.
You child is a slightly different story. If you confirm paternity then the child is automatically entitled to some benefits. The child can get an ID and go into the commissary/exchange...therefore you gf could go if she was buying stuff for the child. I've seen it happen where other custodial parents (grandparents, aunts, etc who were taking care of military children..) this is limited and they have to show why you can't do it.
If you have custody of your child you can live anywhere you want with him/her. If you pay for your girlfriends living expense out of pocket she can live near you. (off base).
If you really want to secure a solid future for your family...and have a real family then get married. Then everything will work out a lot easier. |

As far as I know, you and your girlfriend would have to be married for her to receive any military medical benefits (including prenatal care). This also applies to the military moving her and your child to your duty station to live with you at any time.
If your married you qualify for on-base housing. This would consist of a 2 -3 bedroom house on base, usually with a small yard area. Otherwise, you would be given a dorm room on base, and your family is not permitted to stay there with you as it is, basically, a room with a bed and a bathroom. And you would most likely have a room mate.
Your child would receive medical benefits and child support from your checks when it's born if you remain single. However, the Military will not give your girlfriend prenatal care or deliver the child (unless she happens to be on base when she goes into labor) if your are not married.
Best of luck to you and yours. |

they will not let you do anything unless you are married. they may even make you sign away your rights to the child because if you don't and you get custody and if you are a single parent then they can't make you be deployed and that's how they get scammed. |
