they are that good at what they do and yes they are already there just waiting for the right time, and they even have snipers--one shot one kill; it should happen soon, like at night for stealth reasons and before the other pirates/thieves get there or it will just become a blood bath.

it may be possible to deploy a team in scuba gear to approach the boat underwater, and possibly sink it and retrieve the captain. but a direct approach to the boat will only end in a firefight. from my understanding to the tactical situation, the pirates now have additional forces there for security also, so the additional forces would need to be neutralized as well.
I think the best option is a blockade, wait them out. you got to remember they are there to get money, and by them sitting on the ocean watching one prisoner, they are defeating the purpose. they will at some point demand something, and as time goes on, they will continue to decrease there demands in hopes of ending the situation. it may start out as money, but will end up being a demand for a glass of water. |

The American captain held captive by Somali pirates are not being held in the cargo ship, but a smaller, enclosed lifeboat. With the tiny size of the lifeboat, it would almost be impossible to hide anywhere on the boat and sneak up on the pirates like you see in the movie. An assault using RIBs on a vessel of the same size in the ocean will be difficult as well. |
