Culinary Arts in the Navy or AF?

Hello :) I am 16 and finishing up my Sophomore year of high school. After I graduate, I plan on joining the U.S. military. For a while now I have contemplated which branch of the military to join and which career to choose in the military. Culinary school is something that I have a great interest for and I would like to incorporate that with my decision to join either the AF or Navy ( main branches I am considering,) and eventually create a career as a chef. Anyway, I have had a very hard time deciding which military branch would be best for Culinary Arts (Navy or AF). So if anyone has any experience in this field of work in the military, or if you would like to share your experience in the military, advice, etc. I greatly appreciate any and all. The Navy changed a few years ago and stopped sending their cooks to school with the Air Force. They did this because the training was not right for their cooks. In the Navy their cooks are eligible to take the exam through ACF to become a certified culinarian, after their first sea duty.
SOmething else to consider is the Coast Guard. I say this because the Coast Guard trains their people not only to cook, but accounting, management, leadership, and the ability to organize and carry out many tasks. This is good if you do not plan on making a career out of the military. These skills help you to either run a kitchen, a restaurant or whatever in the civilian world. Just thought I would throw that out there for you. |

The navy might be a preferable choice for you to join. When I left the AF 4 years ago, almost the entire dining facility staff were contracted civilians. In addition, the career field you would be going into also does things like run our Gym, give nutrition classes to the "chunky chicken" program (over weight folks). They were the Services Squadron. |

go navy... from what I have seen and heard the cooks on bigger boats, like carriers do some amazing work. Army cooks are horrible and don't do much overseas other than watch over the third country nationals from the gulf catering company |
